But if a show is THAT far off from being ready, wouldn’t that have been obvious prior to the day of the show or day before or whenever ludicrous time they decided to cancel?

Yeah it doesn't add up. Maybe she's not telling the whole truth

sorry but it doesn't add up. if gaga was able to piece together a whole coachella headline show fitted with stage props, backdrops and its own intro video, i don't see what was so hard about abele being able to put on another one of her minimal yet powerful shows

mother, what must i do?

I still don't understand what she couldn't do in time. Has she ever elaborated? All her shows are just her on stage with a band. Unless she's trying to do some Celine Dion Cirque du Soleil ish, I just don't get what they couldn't do in a fully operational theater.

i swear some people on here want to defend adele more for cancelling the night before than they would if gaga did the same thing. i think if gaga said the night before the chromatica ball that the show wasn’t ready and canceled the whole tour, people would be furious.

i love adele and hope to see her live one day, but she should be more apologetic. at the very least she should apologize for not saying anything even 72 hours before (before people got on planes and left their jobs and lives) when it must’ve been clear that it wasn’t going to happen. when i went to vegas for enigma and jazz and piano, i used my only two vacation days i had at my job then for an entire six month period. and i used a huuuuge chunk of my savings between the hotel, flights, etcetera. even if tickets would’ve been refunded, that would’ve been about 1/3 of the overall expenses (if that). my sister rearranged her entire class schedule that semester of college so that she wouldn’t have exams on the days we were trying to go because going to the shows meant that much to her. again i love adele so much, but i think when you’re famous for that long, people like gaga and adele just loose sight of certain factors of “real life.”

edit: people also often use trips to vegas for bachelorette parties or 40th birthdays or 21st birthdays etc etc. i would be incredibly frustrated if the main event of some big symbolic trip in my life was cancelled without time to even pívot the plans

there were articles (i think from billboard?) that came out at the time that there was a lot of drama between what adele wanted and what the production company wanted, and i don’t think they ever came to an agreement. also i think she was also going through it with her man at the time or something like that

Okay, it's a valid opinion, and it's great to want to have the best show possible for the audience, but you can't cancel few days before when people have organized their lives around your concert, hotels, tickets, money set aside, plane flights potentially. That to me is inacceptable and she should apologize instead of preaching about how great of a decision she made. Idk

To me if you cancel like that, days before, the only valid reason would be sickness, a tragedy, an event you can't miss as a human being. But not because the stage isn't "ready". Well, i'm sorry but u gotta be professional, maybe the time management was flawed, but that's on you. If you couldn't make it all work for the day of the show then I don't know. Gaga made it work for Superbowl with huge costumes, choreos, special effects. You are Adele I'm sure u could've reworked weeks before, if not months and have a vision, and if that vision didn't come to life then so be it. It's life, you are an artist but you also do business, so there's a certain professionalism you gotta have. Just my onion

It wasn't even days before...As I recall, I think it was the night before, or maybe even the day of. People had already flown in from all over the world and checked into their hotels. Even though they presumably were refunded for their concert tickets, most people still lost a ton of money on hotel and travel costs. At least if it had been 72 hours in advance, they might've been able to refund their hotels and air tickets (or at least gotten credit to postpone their flights to another time), depending on the type of booking.

(Yes, we're in agreement; I'm just highlighting that it wasn't even a few days before but within like 24 hours of the actual concert)

no, it was hours before the opening night. her residency was supposed to start on January 21 and she posted on January 20 that it is not ready https://www.instagram.com/p/CY-AYtZAgp-/.

What I don’t understand is why some of you keep saying she should keep apologizing. She has APOLOGIZED multiple times. It’s so weird that when someone makes a mistake some of you expect that that equates to never being able to do anything but be miserable for the rest of their lives. Especially if you don’t have tickets and weren’t impacted…
