Moldova intel director expects a Russian invasion of Moldova in 2023

Alexandru Musteață, the director of the Intelligence and Security Service in Chisinau, stated at the beginning of this week in an interview that  Russia would also plan to invade the Republic of Moldova at the beginning of 2023 . According to the official, several scenarios are currently being analyzed in which Moscow would try including a land invasion through the north of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova.

" The question is not whether the Russian Federation will make a new offensive towards the territory of the Republic of Moldova, but when this will happen: either at the beginning of the year, January-February, or later, March-April. [...] What will follow later, their intentions in relation to Chisinau, we can discuss, but this is a real and very high risk ", said Alexandru Musteață in an interview for TVR Moldova. 

 

Moscow hinted that in this way the government in Chisinau is trying to get more support from Western countries.

This comes as Putin is heavily pressuring Belarus to join the war.
