Yesterday was a historical day, people in Cuba got tired of their life conditions, there's no food, no good vaccines, and they want no more comunism for them. They are chanting for freedom and dignity.

Lots of media are trying to cover this up and I found pretty strange that NO ONE did a thread about that here :S

Cubans in Miami and Madrid, Spain were also on the streets for the same thing

Sorry if my english is pretty poor, not my native language

This is extremely important as it has never happened historically in decades. I hope the best for the people of Cuba!

I hope this is the beginning of the end of communism and the horrible conditions there.

Also, don't take people not making a thread about it as not caring. Some just may not know (like myself) and some people will shy away from making these type of political threads because they can get messy.

Cuba is not a communist country, let's not mix things up. Its system is a state capitalism dictatorship (just like USSR), where the elite controls the government and economy. Everything is done in favor of the ELITE, not the workers.

With that said, I hope the people of Cuba is successful with their much needed and delayed revolution. But I also hope the US doesn't eat them up entirely.

A lot of people here don't post news that doesn't benefit them or make them look woke. Thank you for sharing.

I didn’t post about this bc no lie, I haven’t seen a single outlet or post of it on Twitter from my feed. I’m really surprised bc this is seriously a historic event so I’m confused as to why it’s not MASSIVELY reported rn???

Like RaininOnMe said, it's not with the "woke agenda" because it's against a communist dictatorship. Any dictatorship is awful, it doesn't matter their political view.

Agreed, this is crazy man. I’m really happy people are rising up against it. I can’t believe the president is fully endorsing murder though, that’s f*cking disgusting. I hope people are able to stay safe

This is a much more complex issue than everybody in this thread is making it out to be.

The US has imposed a variety of sanctions to the people of Cuba that have caused incredible damages to their quality of life. Likewise and from another point of view, there are also thousands of people marching in favor of the government.

Something that has also been said here is that "no one is talking about this". This is not true. This has been reported almost 24/7 by the biggest news sites in the world (NBC, NYTimes, Washington Post, to name a few). The fvcking President of the United States has even commented on the matter. It is in no way being "censored" by the "woke agenda", which, may I add, is also a term mainly used to refer to progressive liberalism, which everybody knows is not really pro-communism--so to imply that that is the reason this was "not covered" (even though it was covered everywhere) would be to not only be ignorant of the pejorative meaning of "woke" (which is ironic given the fact people here complain so much about its "influence") but also accusing these hegemonic media sites that they're somehow pro-communism (???), which doesn't make any sense, as proven by history time and time again.

And for the users worrying a change in government for Cuba would mean a greater American influence in the world, as evidenced by the fact Biden supported the protests, worry no more: this is obviously one of the goals here. I support the people of Cuba, but let's also consider the entire context around this issue, which, like any issue, is far from one-dimensional.

There's actually not much people in favor of the government, there  were soldiers and police men dressed as civilians in those marchs, so I don't think so...
Cuba still does business with other countries like Russia, Colombia, Venezuela, China, etc. also comunist are against free trade, so... what's the truth? they said free trade generates poverty but at the same time blames the US for not doing free trade with them?
And my english is not the best, not my native language so I can explain a lot what I'm thinking. (regarding my expression "woke agenda")

If you have a country that uses system A surrounded by a lot of more powerful countries that use system B, it is difficult for the country who uses system A to be able to completely adhere to the theory behind system A because of the context of that country. You can't expect a country as small as Cuba to properly create a communist society since all of its neighbors are capitalist countries, and due to world superpowers also being capitalist.

Under communism, "free trade" as we know it wouldn't exist, since the resources would be distributed according to the need of the people, not according to their financial status as it is today, but this doesn't mean a communist country must be "opposed" to free trade as we know it today, because under worldwide capitalism, opposing free trade is suicide for your country and its people.

Growing US hegemony around the world has put countless of countries under the influence of the US. Many countries have been helped in various ways by the US, something that isn't possible if there has been a blockade against your country for the last 29 years.

Cuban foreign minister has claimed that "the embargo is about an economic war of extraterritorial scope against a small country already affected in the recent period by the economic crisis derived from the pandemic (...) Like the virus, the blockade asphyxiates and kills, it must stop". The blockade also prevents Cuba from "acquir(ing) the medical equipment needed to develop COVID-19 vaccines as well as equipment for food production" (source). You can't expect a country to survive only through China, Russia, or Venezuela. There must be an equilibrium of forces which cannot exist if the US totally refuses to help Cuba.
