In a way, yes, but not directly. He is clearly very inspired by his fave, Nicki, and the lap dance reminded me a lot of Cardi.

Both Nicki and Cardi have drawn inspiration from Gaga, so in a way, that inspiration comes through to him.

Because is the period of time i've been living haha, 21 years is actually quite a long time the 70's and 80's happened only in 20 years of course haha. And to have only 2 major controversial artist is quite disappointing. Actually no, the mainstream artists of today are mainly inspired only in artists of this century barely of the 90's, Lady Gaga is an exception.
 Look at billie eyelash, her main inspirations are avril lavigne, justin bieber and other contemporarys. I absolutely want to find gaga connections with the artists of today, because it's my favorite pop artist and i know how she handles her craft and what is her artistic signature, but if it's not there, i can't find them, i can't find them in Billie eyelash to continue with that example haha, but in this artist the connections are definitely there, i'm not making anything up.

yes, but i think there's also some direct inspiration, last year he randomly asked gaga to collab in twitter, and if he was afraid of telling he likes nicki minaj because everyone would think he was gay, how would it be with gaga, the embodiment of queerness lol

So my first assumption was correct: some of you guys are only seeing stuff through the Gaga prism because you actually don't know your music and art history. The world didn't start spinning the day you were born. I can think of countless current artists that are inspired by 20th century eras, off the top of my head: The Weeknd, or Bruno Mars, or Lana Del Rey.

It's actually OK, everybody doesn't need to have an encyclopedic knowledge about everything and we all learn new stuff everyday. But acting like your opinion is the only valid one while also admitting you don't fully know what you're talking about isn't a good look.

Also, asserting that Lil Nas X can only be inspired by the work of a white woman is low-key problematic too. I can think about a couple of POC artists from the last 21 years that could be considered an inspiration to Lil Nas, like Missy Elliott, Lil' Kim or most importantly Nicki Minaj.

Is funny because i mostly listen to either music of the past century or underground and independent contemporary bands/artist , i'm not putting on a gaga prism here, i'm just comparing shots concepts and ideas as i know the craft, i'm certainly not an encyclopedic but like i said i know different areas of art and i know the history of art.
All the artist you mention are all exceptions like gaga, what i mean by artist of today is the really young people that are just debuting today, like, billie eilish, ava max, lil nas x etc, like gaga all the artists you mention debuted two decades ago.
I'm not acting like my opinion is the only valid one, i made it clear in the post that he might or not have been inspired by her, and my opinion is that i see clearly the inspiration and made my argument, i expected you to say me that you don't think it's inspired by gaga because the concept doesn't apply very much because X or Y, not revolve the conversation on whether or not i know enough about art haha

OMG i never assert that Lil Nas X is only inspired by gaga, that would be dumb, actually his previous works have absolutely nothing to do with gaga, and then, you just agreed with what i said, he, like most artist of today are inspired only with contemporary artist (XXI century).
Again, i can't find gaga influences in most pop artists, because the reality is that there are very few in the current pop music, and because there's no gaga prism, but with him i think the influence is there.
For example in the work of Cardi B there's very very little of gaga, even though she's a self proclaimed Little monster, that's not the case here.

well, to be fair, gaga, since the very beginning was considered provoking, she said it was her lifestyle, she'd be outrageus in every interview, huge or small.

i don't think he's doing it to stay relevant, he's just expressing himself, and it comes with risks, just like gaga
