That's my take too. I'm not a communist, but I read communist literature, just as I read liberal, anarchist and conservative texts, amongst others. I agree with some things from most political ideologies, and disagree with plenty too. Although I would call myself a democratic socialist, I wouldn't say that I completely agree with everything in socialist texts. I think people are too concerned with being entrenched in one system of beliefs that whenever they are presented with alternative theories, they don't recognise the alternative argument as legitimate.

I’m pretty sure the use of “must read” in that sense is not a demand but to emphasize enthusiasm... like a recommendation... like the one you just gave
