A long lockdown will get the numbers under much better control. It's unlikely to outright eradicate it and guarantee a second lockdown won't be needed 1 lockdown is needed if countries shut their borders - stop people coming in and out of the country. If borders are closed 100% entirely yes But more importantly the virus needs to be 100% eradicated for this to be the case. There can't be so much as 1 undetected case to start the spread all over again This is very very hard to achieve and also requires a higher level of compliance among the population to actually follow the rules of social distancing Perhaps if we had done a very strict and long one very early on an erradication may have been possible and if that's what ur refering to I agree with you But now with Covid fatigue ppl are just basically resuming normally habits tho, no lockdown no matter how strict they try to make it will erradicate it even close to fully... Lockdowns at this point end up being about controlling the numbers so hospitals don't get overwhelmed ur never gonna get an erradication in western world now.
