Morphine Prince 109,670
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said new curbs would be introduced at midnight in a bid to contain the new, faster-spreading strain of the virus. New laws will require people to stay at home and work from home where possible. Outdoor gatherings are also to be cut back, with people only allowed to meet one person from one other household. Places of worship are to be closed, group exercise banned, and schools will largely operate via online and remote learning. These rules will apply across the Scottish mainland until at least the end of January, and will be kept under review.

Franch Toast 27,737
Just a reminder that lockdowns wouldn't be necessary if people would stop congregating, maskless, with individuals outside of their household. This is not aimed specifically at Scotland but places in general where the virus is surging (such as the US, where I'm from). Also stricter quarantine guidelines when entering places would be helpful (my understanding is that the UK and US both are laughable in this regard; I wouldn't know, as I ain't traveling till the pandemic is over). Don't know if it could ever just be 1. It only takes 1 case to start a spike all over again So 1 long lockdown is not guaranteed to prevent future ones

rumours 45,521
A question for those of you from Scotland: How do you think its citizens are going to handle such a lockdown? Is it one of those situations where the populace recognizes the need for a lockdown, or will it likely be highly unpopular (despite its necessity)? That is the best way to do get rid of COVID I do agree a long-term lock is needed I'm not disputing that What I don't agree with is the assertion that a long lockdown means only 1 lockdown that isn't necessarily true. A long lockdown will get the numbers under much better control. It's unlikely to outright eradicate it and guarantee a second lockdown won't be needed
