Lame as ****. As if commercial success is any indication of music quality. I didn’t think she could get even more cringey, but I was wrong lol

commercial success is not the measure by which grammies are awarded. /end thread

I always wonder which merit they actually award artists for. If talking about critical acclaim then why Lemonade lost to 25.  If talking about cultural impact, then why the fame monster lost. If talking about sale then why Red didn’t win. Grammys is based off politics mostly. At Nicki peak, rap was never favored compared with now.

Please ignore the spelling in username. I am a Beyonce stan afterall.

do YOU know?

:smh: at people (and Nicki herself) not knowing that Bon Iver is not a single artist, but it's a group of Dessner, Vernon & others

Grammy's are SUPPOSED to be about "artistic excellence" and Bon Iver always look for it while Pink friday was more about making hits and did suceed at it.

Now when you see some commercial albums winning I Can get why Nicky wished it for herself but I'm glad they actually gave some light and praise to the album looking for artistry rather than to the big star for once...

maybe its a bit of all those factors?

and if it wasnt favorable for nicki back then, it is certainly more now for rap artists, so she should release and get those grammies!

but maybe its because.... her music is usually not quality? oops-

uh? Bon Iver is still an acclaimed and successful artist.

is best new artist only based on billboard hot 100 performance?

I feel like people forget Nicki was a somewhat critically acclaimed rapper back in the day. She didn't get the acclaim of say...a Kendrick Lamar...but her first two albums had strong reviews & everyone was calling her the new Missy after her verse on Monster. Nowadays everyone recalls **** with Tekashi. So yeah, it was absolutely bizarre (and very likely tinged with racism) that they snubbed an artist with massive commercial success who also had critical acclaim at the time.

Then why After Hours was even not nominated this year :bear:. It’s weird you know. I mean I understand why Nicki didn’t win but Grammys is not that consistent.

Eh, but then there's the point that Kendrick has been snubbed multiple times and he is critically acclaimed (far more than even early Nick) & commercially successful.

Honestly, Grammys are just a hot mess. Fiona had the most critically acclaimed album of the year and no AOTY nod or ROTY/SOTY nod.

Sis the problem is it is a pattern...It's not just Nicki. You have Kendrick, Bey never winning AOTY despite massive critical and commercial success, The Weeknd, FKA Twigs, etc. all routinely getting snubbed.

Totally understand the systemic racism and patterns of racism in award shows. I’m just curious if Bon Iver is problematic or something?
