the problem started when the leaders used the pandemic for politics and used it to control people as they want, didn't give free masks and gave the correct info about, didn't give free tests since the beginning, didn't help economically to thousands of families, small businesses and newly unemployed, they let some anti covid doctors talk all day on the media and didn't enforce fines on anti maskers.

So what you get at the end is clueless spoiled people that all they want is their freedom back... we're 8 months into the pandemic, what started as a clap to the doctors at the balcony act, became a frustration, lack of money and mentally impossible..

And to come in saying we have basic rights and democracy is...an odd statement to make most especially for the fact that it isn’t necessarily true. The democracies of the West are all quite different and as far as basic rights go, that really changes a great deal depending upon who you are. Many would argue prisoners in America, for example, do not have very many rights. Stepping into arrogance is an prideful reaction, not a productive one. The evidence to that is Trump saying things very much along the same lines as you, and look where that’s *not* gotten us lolol

Y'all realize that except for China and Hong Kong, the places mentioned are democracies, right? And some of these places never even had lockdowns; they got things under control through mask mandates, contact tracing, ample testing, closing their borders, and mandatory quarantines. And now people there have largely resumed normal lives, and their economies haven't been as hard-hit (except for the tourism sectors).

I live in Ireland, so this article speaks directly to me. I don't know about the rest of Europe, but maybe the same applies to them. I believe we are soft, we've had it too easy for too long. Covid is the worst global event since WW2, and we can't quite get our heads around the seriousness of it. Our lives are smartphones, sky tv, eat and drink what and when we like, go on foreign holidays, spend money on home improvements, and .... well ..... that's just how things are. Some of us can't get our heads around the fact that that is all the stuff of privilege and it could be taken away.
