Shadow 6,625
Felt she should have went with Speechless or Dance in the Dark... Do your own research.
HermioneT 1,998
Alejandro hooked me up on Gaga! As other people pointed already out for their country and region is true here, too: everyone and their mother knows the song and it is still being played on radio every other day. She / hers

NightStar 313
Hardly ever. On the contrary, it was precisely this choice that catapulted her into the stratosphere of pop stardom. "Alejandro" may not be as sophisticated a song as "Dance in the Dark", but it resulted in one of the most daring and ground-breaking collaborations of her career, which is the music video shot by Steven Klein. It is hard to describe the effect which the video produced from the "today" time point. Imagine this: YouTube was lagging because everybody was checking it out to see what sort of video could make everybody so shocked or hyped or pissed. The video was her first truly "shocking" music video. Paparazzi, Bad Romance and Telephone carried the "extravagant" and "flamboyant" vibes, but the collaboration with Steven Klein on an innocent beach-style summer hit in such a twisted, sinister and referential way elevated her to the unprecedented level of discussion. The press was discussing her right to push the envelope and her attitude towards religious and sexual taboos, her peers were either bashing her or praising her, the fans DID NOT SEE this coming. It was precisely this video that turned her from entertainer to pop royalty (and the Monster Ball Tour, of course); she became the subject of culture studies. Blade 5,603
The video was unconventional and risky. It turned many people off. Maybe that was a mistake, but knowing Gaga she’s probably proud of the statement she made with the video

Seryabkina 888
if anything, Telephone might have been a poor choice (idk, for me it feels forgotten and kinda dated)
BABYL0N 3,157
The song was HUGE in Germany peaked on #2 (blocked by Waka Waka in World Cup Season) and was literally everywhere back then everyone I knew was loving this song in fact it was the BEST choice gosh I miss the times where nearly the whole school listened to the hottest pop songs this generation has 0 taste

sillynate 6,170
Honestly tho, I remember back in 2010 after hearing Telephone on the radio, I was predicting DITD would be the next one I’d hear. Then years later when I joined this site I saw that Interscope chose DITD for the third single but before they sent it to radios, Gaga sent Alejandro to radios behind their back or something. She robbed us of the best third single jk Alejandro is still iconic and remembered so it’s okay
