No, because experimenting with her style WAS her passion. And we all know she has definitely always had a personality of her own :saladga:

She just grew older and faced so many challenges that her priorities changed.

Grace Jones was just being closed minded and nasty.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Gaga's fashion choices were for attention and to stand out from the crowd. Lüc Carl confirmed it. She just made up these explanations around the clothes to gain credibility as an artist and make her seem more involved in the creative process than she actually was.

Grace is a legend and has influenced pop culture so much.

Unfortunately rn she has lost most of relevance. Instead of being grateful for her influence and how much she influenced pop culture she's just bitter that shes not relevant anymore.

I hope she gets a grip

I may be wrong, but hasn't she said some really cruel things about Rihanna? Like way worse than this.....I just know she shades nearly everyone, and some people enjoy it but honestly I find it tiring and a bit cruel. She's an icon and I still love her in some ways, but she needs to chill.

Amen. One of the points Marina and the Diamonds made with Electra Heart was that we slip into different characters when we encounter different people.

I guess some people expect Gaga to be in a chainmail bikini and talking about semen while interviewing the Dalai Lama. Lorde.

It's kind of interesting, because I also feel like this is something women, trans in general, & gay/bi men are held to more than straight men. Basically, people are seen as either trying too hard to be "real and down to earth" or they are deemed "fake"....meanwhile, a lot of men "cycle" through personas (and that should be fine, it's the entertainment business and changing it up sometimes entertains us)....and rarely get dragged.

I can’t remember what interview this was from so I might be wrong, but didn’t she say that “Gaga” was basically a character she created out of trauma, and over the years as she’s worked through it, she’s bridged the gap between Gaga and Stefani and come to terms with the fact that they’re the same person?

i think “an empty vessel just trying things on” is cold and kind of extreme, but also not completely off base

Exactly, that's kind of my point. In the beginning she was all about studying fame because that's what she created Lady Gaga for, right? She kind of just wanted people to see how talented she was, but she didn't feel secure enough to present herself as Stefani Germanotta or whatever, so she started studying fame, and famous people, and Hollywood, and pop culture, and she somehow became the embodiment of fame. Then she started growing and realizing she could be something more than that. And I guess that's what she meant when she said she wanted to put art first (during the ARTPOP era), because she realized she embodied something that was superficial in a satiric way, and she couldn't bring that idea down with BTW (and people kinda started getting tired of it), so she decided to do it with ARTPOP.

My point is, she has a very strong personality, because she has always stood for her art, but in the beginning her art was focused on reflecting what her idea of fame was, and she failed to reflect what art meant to her (and I have always thought this is what she means when she says she did a lot of things she didn't want in her carrer).

That's why now she is all about  spreading love and kindness, because she realized that, for her, art could only be meaningful if it had a positive impact on people's lives. She is making her own art now, and not trying to reflect what pop culture considers to be art. And this is the reason I believe that everything that went through during the ARTPOP era was not bad at all, she just had to endure all of that to grow.

Ngl, sometimes Gaga has seemed inauthentic.

When I saw her Joanne tour in Atlanta, she spoke with a forced southern accent and justified it by saying "my Mama's from West Virginia".

At the same time, I think an artist has every right to be an empty vessel if they choose.  Gaga still has depth and a personality, for sure.  And like others say, in her early 20s she was going through some sh*t.

I honestly think she's fascinating for having the ability to put on different "hats".  Sometimes, she's fake, but I love her work, her message and her intelligence.  And the magic of art is that it doesn't require 100% authenticity.

(She's also got some strong Scorpio and Gemini placements in her birth chart, so it makes sense lol)

I found this really interesting.

In which ways Scorpio & Gemini influence her?

One of the things I like the most and really appreciate is Gaga's personality. I find it super interesting. So go figure.

she said she had found herself and started saying no.  Hence the reduction  in her use of costumes today.

I don’t think she was talking about her fashion. She said she used to get overworked mostly because people wanted to benefit from her a lot.

this has nothing to do with her wearing less crazy outfits today, but it seems like Chromatica will serve a lot of old-Gaga fashion

Definitely not. I love and respect Grace Jones but I feel as though she was definitely wrong here.

I hope her views on Gaga have changed by now. I've always thought a collab between them would be legendary.

Guys, these threads are getting worse. PLEASE consider looking into making sourdough bread. It's very time consuming and a boredom deterrent. Thanks

And who is luc carl? Ex boyfriend she left in 2011 .?please

Only gaga has the right to define her art. If she said it means something then whatever luc said is irrelevant

She Ended up making one of her most artistic works off their breakup so if you ask me she is very artistic

This is another level. Surely one of the best quotes I’ve ever read on GGD! :legend:
