By the way, it's not lost on me that Sanders supporters criticize Biden for occasionally making overtures to Republicans but hail Sanders for getting an actual endorsement from a right-winger. I don't really see how you square those two things - seems like talking out of both sides of your mouth.

It's actually very simple:

Joe Biden compromising his beliefs, values, and political positions to make inroads with Republican politicians

Is different than Bernie Sanders not compromising his beliefs, values, and political positions and winning over conservatives to his side with his policy approach anyway. (Substance over subject as it were)

One of these is an example of the core reason of why people hate politicians and politics (the former)

And the other is an example of how we should make inroads with people that disagree with us on some issues, but not others.

~~~
The entire mainstream belief in "centrism" is that in order to make inroads with those "socially liberal economically conservative" white guys in the midwest, we need to run someone who isn't too progressive either socially or economically, and who is *actually* center-right on many issues involving the economy and the government's involvement in it.
Bernie's example is direct proof that socially liberal AND economically progressive can work with these people, but it flies against the "centrism is the way we win over these people!" narrative so they don't want to give it any credence :emma:)
(Also, the narrative was always bunk because "socially liberal economically conservative" people don't really exist in such a triangulated manner. Bernie simply appealed to him by saying "here's what I believe and have fought for in my career" and it makes sense because things like universal health care, attacking climate change aggressively, free public college makes sense on a visceral level w.o being inherently political, let alone seeming like unfettered socialism (because in reality, its just social democracy and welfare state expansion)
And I guess technically Joe Rogan votes democrat so idk if hes a "right winger" though his social views and past statements would indicate there's a disconnect between some of his more problematic/bigoted thoughts and the way he votes.... again, also flying in the face of our so-called conventional understanding of "centrism" "undecideds" etc.
*edit*
this is relevant :emma: While I feel for the people who have been hurt by Joe Rogan's comments in the past of all communities, it is much better that we get people who are veering to the right on many issues in this era of radicalization TO OUR SIDE, than concede them to the far right, and no amount of outrage will change my mind about that. Even the queen of centrism herself Neera Tanden knows that. So its revealing that she later concern trolls about it as a gotcha against Bernie :rip:
My only concern is that they're influential enough to split the Warren/Sanders voters further which only helps Biden.
With Bernie having a 10 point lead over Warren this close to the primary, this is the time to be throwing everything behind Bernie imo.
As frustrating as that is :bradley: #AlwaysALizzard :bradley:
This is not going to sway average people from Bernie to Warren. I wouldn't worry.
Joe Rogan endorsing Bernie has much more impact than something like this.
Wait are you kidding? LMAO
The Register is the biggest newspaper in Iowa. Who do you think reads the paper? Older people. Who do you think votes in the highest numbers? Old people.
The people listening to the Joe Rogan ramble are statistically SIGNIFICANTLY less likely to vote, or even give a ****.
The Registers endorsement means so much more. The Bros remain delulu.
Goes to show how out of touch you are. Most of those older people most likely have their minds made up by now. I doubt anyone was waiting to see who a newspaper would endorse to make their decision. We'll see who's delulu on February 3rd when Warren comes in fourth place in Iowa.
As recently as a week and a half ago a poll indicated that 40% of Iowans were still undecided. Nobody was on the edge of their seats awaiting their endorsement, BUT, it certainly bolsters Warrens cause. Also I didn't say Warren was going to win Iowa, please don't put words in my mouth or mind.
The liberal Huffington Post? Why would we care what the anti-Bernie establishment media has to say? By the way, Bernie isn't a liberal :laughga:
