Democrats literally are the moderates in this country...or at least they should be. They'd be considered centrists in other countries. Imo, we'd do better with Dems and Greens (or whatever left party there is) working together with an actual contest of practical but humane policies and ideas moving us into the future. Pragmatism from the centrists, passion and ideals from the leftists. And the Republicans can sit in the corner and watch as their party shrivels But we can all agree Biden is a mess Joe Biden would be a conservative in other countries, or a "liberal" at best, and she would be center-left, a new-democrat, etc. The "Democratic Party" in America easily covers 2 to 3 political ideologies just by nature of having a two party system, and there are many people who ID as Democrats but who vote and campaign against our stated core beliefs/interests. I have no idea why people are freaking out about this, she said nothing wrong or inflammatory. She did not say "Joe Biden is not a democrat!" or "Joe Biden is a Republican!" she said that in another country, her views and his would put them in different parties - Those parties in other countries still work together often (That being said, Joe Biden said he would have a Republican VP, even as a passing comment, so he's clearly further to the right of the vast majority of democratic voters and elected officials So, if she had said "Joe isn't a Democrat" she would still have been partially correct) I'm not sure where this "should" comes from... The Democrats were the working class, left party about equality of opportunity and equal rights until corporations came along and corrupted them. They *should* still be the party of the working and middle class and the "everyman" party, not the party that is only interested in their careers and personal success. I cant imagine any Democrat thinks where the Democratic party is right now is absolutely the best position it could be in and shouldn't change at all. There's a reason that although this was from A New York Magazine piece just about her time in Congress, Conservatives are the ones mainly latching onto this and throwing it out there for Dem's to hang themselves with. We're supposed to be the people who care about nuance We're taking the bait by claiming its divisive instead of being smart enough to know that its just not intended to be at all 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

Like the Tea Party, why are trying to force out every establishment figure, experienced politician and moderate Democrat. It won’t work. The country is extremely diverse politically, with a fair sized portion of voters in the center. I personally like to split it into thirds, as I find each party’s extreme base makes up about 30% of the total electorate. That still leaves 40% in the center. Mathematically, this should be split between the parties. But with Trumpism, most moderate Republicans have ABANDON their party entirely. If the Democratic party was more united and had less of this bullcrap, they’d steal most moderate voters, making America a majority Democratic. That would enable overwelming landslides, Democratic presidents and progressives in power. You don’t have to like and agree entirely with everyone in your party, but when you start trying to force other members out because they disagree with you, your isolating voters. Far right Republicans realized this and were able to win in 2014 & 2016 by uniting their two wings behind a diverse set of candidates (2014: high profile POC and women in the GOP, 2016 primary: most diverse GOP primary ever w/ POC, a woman, people from various areas in the country, experienced candidates and outsiders, etc). AOC is doing nothing more than shooting Democrats in the foot with low comments like this. This is the kind of **** Trump does. Let’s not stoop that low. Just pick a politician who resonates with your ideals and ethics.

thatboyisarobot 152
Centrist Democrats and independents breaks out in massive protest after AOC's latest OUTRAGEOUS RANT: Spoiler Spoiler Seriously though, why is it that Republicans running to the far right and winning three out of five of the last major elections (Congress in 2010, 2014 and the Presidency in 2016) seen as business as usual, but the mere suggestion that Democrats move a fraction to the left met with iconoclastic pearl clutching ? I mean, seriously, the Republicans through the electability scheisse out of the window in 2010, and they've managed to hold onto enough power to ruin the supreme court and block any and all progressive legislation for a full decade. How do people see that "ahh, the Republicans threw the moderates out and won like never before, so the problem must be we aren't moderate enough?!?" The center is gone. Republicans aren't going to work with us, now or ever. They'll call us socialists, soviets, reverse racists, feminazis, and snowflakes, no matter what we do. Obama literally took a REPUBLICAN HEALTH PLAN and used it for Obamacare, and Republicans didn't waste any time tearing it apart. In a hyper-polarized society, we can't keep pretending that Dems are gonna win by activating Bill Clinton's constituency. Americans are more polarized than ever; better to play with the cards we're dealt than sigh and wish wistfully for bipartisanship that usually produces terrible results anyway. ItsTommyBitch 12,640
1 hour ago, Halsey said: The last thing we want to do is stoop to the GOP’s level and being like Trump. This is a False Equivalency, the "far left" progressive party is actually mostly center-left in comparison. AOC and Bernie are democratic socialists, not socialists* so we wouldn't be stopping to the GOP's level at all. We as a country are right leaning at this point in history economically and especially in terms of foreign policy. The opposite of things like locking children in cages at the border, de facto outlawing immigration itself, trying to criminalize abortion, make it easier for corporations to pollute our planet and not pay their workers a decent wage, and embracing white nationalism would be something like state control of the means of production, open borders, etc. What we are talking about is universal healthcare, a $15 minimum wage, free college, and making crossing the border only a civil offense and THOSE are center-left positions because other countries have figured out that those just make sense if you believe that people should have a semblance of equal footing in our society, a framework for success. They shouldn't be partisan at all - they only are because, again, we are right leaning. Spoiler Bernie is actually more of a Social Democrat He probably made a strategic choice to go with "Democratic Socialist" since he used to ID as a flat out "Socialist" in order to get ahead of any potential backlash, but Social Democrats want to work within a capitalist economy and democratic government by making it more social - that means having a healthy welfare state, social ownership, social justice etc. This is what Europe is like generally. Democratic Socialists however want to ultimately transition out of a capitalist society because they see it as being fundamentally incompatible with freedom, equality, etc. To Democratic Socialists, things like a stronger welfare state and Socially owned economy are stepping stones but... apples and oranges I guess But since Bernie has started ID'ing as one, the two terms have become somewhat synonymous. To me its just a little clue that Bernie probably *isnt* a capitalist ala his younger more radical years, but he's learned to play the game better since then! 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
Emvee 8,845
Not only is AOC objectively right, so many of the modern rights and privileges we have as Americans are ours because either progressive third parties or progressive wings of the Democratic Party provided enough pressure. We aren't being like Trump, though. This just happens to be the next evolution in both of the parties. Like I said, both Republicans and Democrats will continue to evolve and change over time, and in my opinion, this is a point in time where we do start to see that shift. I mean, back when Lincoln was president, many would argue that this "Republican party" looked more like the Democratic party of modern times. 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔪𝔬𝔫𝔰𝔱𝔢𝔯 𝔱𝔬𝔯𝔢 𝔞𝔴𝔞𝔶 𝔦𝔱𝔰 𝔪𝔞𝔰𝔨 𝔞𝔫𝔡...𝔦𝔱𝔰 𝔣𝔞𝔠𝔢 𝔴𝔞𝔰 𝔪𝔦𝔫𝔢.
