socotra 3,310
The era buckled under its own weight. Massive hype, huge pressure, a scorched-earth promo campaign – and then Judas threw a wrench in the machine. It didn't quite live up to the hype, it was a super heavy/experimental/wide-ranging album, and controversial. I disagree with the idea that "people started liking Adele-type music" – not true. This was the same year Party Rock Anthem, We Found Love, On the Floor, Till the World Ends, Hold It Against Me, E.T., Firework, S&M, etc. were all huge. It's just that GAGA'S brand of pop was anathema to the feel-good, radio-friendly pop that was friendly at the time. In other words, consumers weren't looking for the gritty, punk, rock-influenced, glam album that BTW was. In spite of that, it's remarkable that the album still produced FOUR Top 10 singles, something most artists would kill for.
Charles 1989 230
Well, she had like 11 singles between BTW and Shallow, where 5 were top 10. I Think can be competence, a cancelled video, and overexposition
RRR 3,996
Judas was released midweek and would have debuted higher if it had been given a full week. That was not a very good business decision, and then they immediately scrapped the single and released Edge of Glory. Some very weird decisions by Team Gaga during that era! jacs vs looser 4,222
I feel it was a combination of being overexposed and the incredibly messy single roll out after the lead. The fact that this album was also more political and therefore polarizing, probably didn't help either.

She was literally everywhere even before the album was released. And honestly, Born This Way was not that well received. It was successful because of the enormous hype, but when that faded people were not into it. And the next singles had a fairly similar heavy sound, so they were not that successful. Also, 2011 was the year Adele exploded, which was very much the "anti-Gaga" and what people were looking for. “Now suddenly the Adele is me” Gaga post 2014

Zander 14,910
I just remember a lot of things in BTW era seeming like they were poorly planned. She had a habit of releasing the song and then not releasing the music video for like almost 2 weeks which jeopardised the singles charting potential. She's done this most of career and it's been really frustrating to watch. I know Judas single was originally meant to be released on 19th April, but got pushed to 15th April and then the MV premiered on 5th May (16 or 20days!?) I still love BTW album - I think it was way before its time and was almost too experimentally pop for the GP.
KatieJudasGaga4 67,907
I'm the biggest Judas fan and I can say Judas wasn't a flop. It was an underperformance but definitely not her first flop. That goes to Marry The Night, even You and I underperformed. The Edge of Glory did well even with the Judas controversy so you guys can stop using that as an excuse. Four top ten hits are still a huge deal, and in this age of streaming if she replicated it with LG6 we'd all call it a huge success. I think the controversy, though, and some of the critical reactions from some music critics (it was a bit like BTW in that it was generally well received, but those who didn't like it really hated it) kind of slowed her momentum. The production was so lazy and over the place. Songs were boring and half of them were fillers Uh....BTW has the same exact score as The Fame on metacritic. migamiga 12,101
gaga become more of an eye roll at this point in her career. i think people got fed up with her and felt like she was too pretentious and also just didn't have the attention span to try to understand what she was trying to convey with every performance/video/song/etc. 2011 was also a really competitive year in pop music. this was the year adele broke through in the states, lmfao was everywhere (party rock anthem), nicki was reaching her peak (super bass), rihanna was still reaching new peaks (with wfl). teog did pretty well it was just stacked up against a lot of strong singles and those labels were pushing those singles more than gaga's camp cause frankly, they didn't need to push it that much. the album and the song was already doing well. finally, i think the genre changes between each single was too confusing for the gp. she went from disco to electro house to stadium rock/pop ballad (with an 80s themed production) then to country/rock/americana and then back to dance pop. the gp doesnt want to be challenged, they just want easy-to-digest, fast food pop music and ms gaga is foie gras

BTW was a bad choice cause she made very catchy party songs in TF/TFM. But in BTW there wasn’t any. And people want to hear catchy dance songs not songs about being who you are or dark songs. And the production of album was very messy and loud. So true. Rihanna was releasing album every year with 10 singles from 2006 till 2013 and nobody was tired of her. Drake releasing his sh*t all the time and nobody is tired. Ariana releasing an album every 8 months and nobody is tired. The problem was in production and in message that album had.
