Gaga and Beyoncé - a comparison

Today, after seeing Bey slay the stage I re-watched Gaga's performance from last year and realized how differently they approach live performances yet how they are both very similar performers.

Bey always does the most and spends a lot of time rehearsing making sure everything is gonna be perfect during the show and because of this "perfectionist" side of her, she looks a little more "robotic" like she is programmed to do the show and nail every single step. That's in no way a read or a negative thing, I think it's just the way she is and the way she wants to portray her pop-star persona: the Goddess of Performances.

Gaga, on the other hand, is a rock-star at heart so despite putting a lot of efforts into her live productions, she always gives me the impression that she is just going with how she feels in the moment and because of that her movements feel less choreographed and more authentic.

So considering Bey is technically perfect but sometimes lacks emotions and Gaga is usually very emotion-driven but less precise and organized they should "feel" like two completely different performers but I realized that's not necessarily true. Even though it's probably a very obvious observation, I realized they respectively chose to represent black women (Bey) and the lgbtq+ community (Gaga) and turned themselves into symbols for those communities making each performance somehow connected or dedicated to them. By doing that they both separated themselves from other performers who basically just go on stage "to have fun and entertain the audience" which is still good but not as affecting as going on stage and have those communities driving and inspiring them to do good and do better for them.

That said I always loved them both but somehow I just realized (I don't know why it took me so long) how great it would be if they made a full album together and went on tour. I know Gaga is still recovering and she will probably deal with fibromyalgia whenever she has to perform for several weeks in a row (which is very sad but very true at this point) and Bey is constantly taking care her family but I think they would help each other out and become even better performers by working side to side on something more than a song or a video and use their collective talent to inspire and bring together their respective communities.

So who's with me? Should Gaga X Beyoncè finally happen?

I'm glad we have the privilege of witnessing artists like Madonna, Beyonce and Gaga while they're alive. They're going down in history you know.:firega:

I think this is a pretty solid take on how similar and different they are. However, I do think it would be a mistake for them to collaborate on an album anytime soon. I think first Gaga needs to get back up on her feet on her own as major artist again. I don’t mean she needs to have a chart topping album with huge singles again but an album that receives universal acclaim like BEYONCÉ and Lemonade did.

I say this because if they were to collaborate on an album it would undoubtedly be a huge success, however where both artists stand right now, Beyoncé would completely outshine her. That would probably hurt Gaga’s image. IMO she’s not ready to stand side by side with her yet.

(btw I realize that a project like this will probably never happen lol)

Gaga fits better within the indie / rock community. That's why she's collaborating with artists like Florence and Lukas Nelson. Also Gaga is a songwriter and producer, Beyonce isn't. I mean their collaboration worked perfectly when they were both doing pure pop music. Now they've shifted styles and I can't really see it happening.

I love your thoughts about them and I really agree with you. I was just thinking about them and how Beyonce is more about perfection and Gaga less perfect but more passionate in her performances. Both are two of the best vocalists of our generation and I like them both. I will always choose Gaga ofc because of her bravery and creativity, but I would love to see them collaborate again. However, as someone mentioned, Gaga still needs time. I want her to shine on her own for a while. Otherwise it would feel like Beyonce is helping her out, which should not be the case. Gaga is a legend on her own.

I'm obsessively opposed to the typical...

Beyoncé is a great performer, but I find her overrated so no thank you :poot:

She's overrated for sure but she's one of the few artists that deserves to be overrated :firega:

Spoiler

If that makes sense...leave me alone, I'm sleepy :triggered:

I'd love for Gaga to work with her again tbh.

I'm just like 🧍‍♂️

Where did you get that artwork from? It's insanely good.

And yeah I would love a collaboration between them, it would cater to two different audiences and would be successful in my opinion.

Yes please.

I think Gaga is the only artist that can be on the same level as Beyonce when it comes to stage presence. It would definitely be interesting to see how a show that both are planne would look like, due to them doing very different kind of shows, but I am sure they would find an approach to find a good middle way for both of them. Imagine a duet at the Piano (Gaga playing and singing, Beyonce singing) :worship2:

That's not true at all, Beyonce collaorated with both indie and rock

She also produce some artist who are not specifically R&B like Chloe X halle too

Also Beyonce always had big influences from Alanis Morissette, the indie 90s queen

Well a Gaga X Beyonce tour would finally give them a reason to perform Telephone together after almost 10 years

B is like Tina and Madonna. Gaga is like watching Freddie and Elton.

I'm in the minority but I would love to see Gaga transition away from choreography and more towards feeling it and rocking out. Remember her at swinefest doing Swine? Performing PI, doing Rebel Yell? What about her piano performances or Diamond Heart?

I think that's the post-30 Gaga that needs to exist.

Beyonce and Gaga are so different.
