ohmygauw 36
She has become more nasally from her TF and TFM era... I feel that's why she has released a ~country~ (debated) album, as female country singers tend to be quite nasally.

Ooolong 4,440
She hasn't become more nasal. In some of the earlier performances of her career she was actually nasal. Her technique has improved and I think you're generally mistaking 'nasality' for the placement of her resonance and such. The only time she actually sounds nasal is when she raises her larynx, which isn't too often. But as others have said, I think she generally does it herself to better suit the music. Whispering 18,865
She had a nasal sound from time to time early in her career. Now, that her voice has matured and she's learned how to use her voice in different ways, we don't hear it much.

Glamourpuss 29,062
I notice it a lot more when I see her on tour. I don't know if it's just the sound system at Manchester but even her talking voice is so nasal. Has anybody else noticed?

Joanne sounds the most "nasally" to me during the first verse and chorus and it sounds VERY innocent to me because of that. I think Joanne is "nasally" because she's fighting back tears. I think it's supposed to sound like she's crying and we all get nasally when we cry.
hELXIG 43,085
I like her current voice a lot, but it's kinda odd considering that her talking voice used to be a lot more nasal than it is now! I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
Oriane 21,116
THIS is very nasal and a little irrating at times. She lost a lot of her nasality since, she kept a little here and there and I think it adds to the performances. The only GGD member who can read / Credits to Celloo Deng for the profile pic! ATRL 14
Her voice was way nasally before, especially during TMB: It's her signature thing
Lassex 1,169
At first I thought you were talking about the ''TIHTY voice'' Anyway, I've realized that she really likes to sing with different tones nowadays. Even in one song, there might be different tones in her voice. You can even hear it in that performance you linked. The resonance changes all the time! At first I didn't like the way she started playing more with her voice. TIHTY wasn't my favorite because her voice was so deep and it sounded fake (since it's not her natural tone). But on Joanne, the different tones work better. For example, the vocals of Perfect Illusion are amazing. I think the chorus is supposed to be sung differently anyway because the vocals are so high but still not falsetto. I personally think these different singing styles were always there but now she really knows how to use them. You can hear how her voice has evolved and improved. Some older songs sounded better than ever when she performed them at the Coachella!
