I think that The Cure is more explicit when it comes to the end product. Gaga has always had mainstream quality, but the new song is much more blatant if that makes sense. I consider mainstream music to be songs that usually sound the same (sees current chart) and that are charting well. PI and ARTPOP are not good examples. And at the same time, it's a clear attempt at success. Nothing's wrong with either of the two intentions, though. But this experiment will determine the direction she takes, I guess.
