Gaga said “I don’t know why people compare me to David Bowie, because there will never be another David Bowie and I don’t think anyone is comparable to him.

“Maybe because I stole his lightning bolt for my first video, but it was an homage to my greatest inspiration. I don’t know, it makes me uncomfortable, I should say – I just want to be me.”

“I did my very best to put together something that I hoped would be the showstopper of the night. All I wanted was for when the Grammys were over, for people to talk of nothing but David Bowie, and I think I achieved that.”

“It did hurt. But what are you going to do? I can’t… it’s his father, you know. Whatever he was feeling in that moment I have compassion and love for him. But yes, of course it hurt. I still have to trust and believe in myself as a Bowie fan. I’m not his family, and the thing is, that’s his father. His father is not David Bowie, his father is David Jones.

“I’m sure that was difficult to watch and of course, I called many people on David’s team before I even begun doing that project and it’s unfortunate, what can I say? But God bless of him, you know?”

She did an AMAZING JOB. The only people that hated it were asshole 40 year old straight men or those weirdo's that claim to be super fans and can only name one David Bowie song. Gaga's performance was A++. Anyone that didn't like it felt threatened because a female artist like Gaga is THAT diverse and THAT versatile. Had it been some make rocker from the 80s no1 would care.

Very cool, sweet and classy response.  Seriously that's the best and only way to respond to that and she's right, it's his father so that's tricky.  That's understandable.   She did a great job and said all one could say.

The fact that she contacted Bowie's team BEFORE even doing the tribute proves that people know what they were in for. A memorable performance/tribute. Ugh humble Queen.

I mean, was there anyone else in contemporary music that embodied the Bowie vibe more than Gaga herself? Who would've been more appropriate? I can't think of one other individual, tbh. Gaga did the performance beautifully, it was a very fitting tribute.

Collect him, to be honest. I feel sorry he had to be bitter about it, and couldn't cherish the memory of his father with the rest of us that night. But he's grown; hopefully his healing process hasn't been a difficult one.

❤ x ❤
