I feel like she really gets in her element when singing jazz cause she is such a lover of the "old school" traditional music, don't get me wrong pop music is clearly what everyone is craving (myself included) but let the woman enjoy herself cause she seems to be very happy in JazzGa mode! The scene is a flashback to when Selena's father, a young Mexican American, was performing in a doo-wop band. The band was playing American pop music but couldn't book any gigs (ya know, because racism) where audiences were listening to that style. So they had to play in Mexican venues - only Mexicans didn't want them either because wanted to dance to their more traditional music like Tejano, not Doo-wop. In this scene a small riot breaks out when their show is cut short because the band doesn't know any Mexican songs.
