I hope Gaga has gotten her management sorted out now. It doesn't matter what is released as a single if it isn't going to be managed properly. I don't even really like Gypsy, but if the song doesn't get a decent video I will be extremely disappointed.
This era was completely mismanaged and therefore couldn't live up to expectations.

Imagine if Applause hadn't leaked, we would have gotten the music video for streaming combined with the first week sales of a good PLANNED release and it would have had a radio deal to boost airplay. I think it would have had a much nicer peak (Although #4 is a great peak), and I don't think there would have been as much talk of her fading.
I think Applause could have gotten #1 if it had been released properly (but I am prepared to get dragged if people have stats indicating otherwise). Look at Beyonce though, her release was flawless, it got people interested and talking. I think it would have been the same if Gaga dropped her single and MV at the same time.

Imagine if DWUW had actually received a music video. Imagine if she had performed the Xtina version on The Voice and then had actually released the Xtina version on itunes straight after. There is no way Do What You Want should have peaked at #13.
We all know it would have at least gone top 10 with the video and that is very respectable.
Imagine how ARTPOP might be performing if there was actually some hype around the singles that where being released from it.

I understand why they want to play it safe with Gypsy, but it isn't going to make a ****ing difference if promo isn't on point.

I know it isn't 100%, but why else would they add Gypsy to all those other artists' upcoming singles like "On Top of the World" or "Goodness Gracious"

I had no idea when I posted that. I'm hoping it's the3rd single.

What are everybody's goals for Gypsy?

Mine would be

- Platinum before the single cycle finishes

- Drives 3 to 4 weeks of 12k+ album sales

- 100M audience impressions

- A video would be nice~

Who knows about Applause going #1 with streaming during its planned first week but it definitely would have debuted in the Top 3.

The whole DWUW #13 peak could've been avoided by simply making her perform DWUW instead of Dope at the Youtube awards which is upsetting.

I don't do these because they never come true for me.

And how many safe songs were there on that album? Hair was probably the only safe choice not released, but it was awful. They didn't have a choice but to release something risky.
No but I mean it was pretty risky to release Judas as the second single, especially right around Easter. Marry the Night probably would have done well at that time for example. Even Hair. Which I would consider to be safer :)

this site playiga is pretty reliable

Why's that? I'm not familiar with it tbh. But with my skeptical arse I see it having no commercial legitimacy

Gaga has posted two pictures saying "#Dope" in the last hour.  :awkney:

What if it is the real third single?  :wtf:

DWUW never stood a chance though.

Indeed:

People expected it to be THE crossover hit from Gaga, but that's actually Gypsy/Applause/ARTPOP

1. DWUW could net get big HAC/AC support, making album sales much lower

2. DWUW wouldn't get great Rhythmic support anyways, it's only a few M AI higher than Applause's peak on Rhythmic

3. DWUw is a collab, collabs tend to not sell albums as well

4. DWUW is a collab with R. Kelly..

judas  you and I

But you're right I think this era they'll be safe.

Judas is a RedOne produced song, one of the catchiest songs from Judas that sounds like Bad Romance 2.0, they wanted a quick N.1 but they didn't get it.

Yoü and I charted at #3 upon album release, appeals to a different audience and is Gaga's most relatable single so far.

:awkney: Gypsy? Really? :awkney: from an album called ARTPOP? :awkney:

:awkney:

Oh well, I'll support Gaga as always and hope Gypsy smashes and especially helps sell the album. But this era might have had the most uninteresting single choices apart from Applause...
