Philip 4
Why are you saying awful promo? She promoted just as much as Katy and Miley. Gaga even promoted 10 times more than Britney did with Femme Fatale. We shouldn't care about sales that much anyways. Let's be happy Gaga got a #1. That is a huge accomplishment in it's self. I'm proud of her. That's just not true. Katy was EVERYWHERE and Miley is the it-girl as of now. At least Gags got to nr.1 tho.

Blues 0
Let me put it this way: if she didn't care about charts, Zedd wouldn't be on the album. :) She started working with zedd in 2011, he was a nobody then.
ChvVolk 1,991
Let me put it this way: if she didn't care about charts, Zedd wouldn't be on the album. :) If she cared so much like you're implying, wouldn't Zedd have gotten the first or 2nd single, or a promo single? Haus 152
Even tho she began working with Zedd when he was unknown? mm k Just because that was before Clarity doesn't mean he was unknown, most of us knew who he was before they started working together his songs are easily the most uninspired and generic on the album and probably of her career. I just can't believe you're trying to tell me that she doesn't care about chart success. She's a pop artist. She's worked with RedOne, Will.i.am, and Zedd. She cares about charts and I'm sure she's disappointed with these numbers no matter what she says publicly.

fuzzyandgreen 0
I don't get this "no promo" thing. For the last few months I felt like I heard something new about Gaga every other day, to the point where I heard people saying they were sick of hearing so much about Gaga recently. Maybe it's just my area.
Nissa 51
There are more people who have played in the Super Bowl than have released an album with more than 200k first week sales. Gaga is an elite performer. To expect her to be the single best is unrealistic. To think that numbers are a measure of "best" is also unrealistic. Very well said! This line of reasoning confounds me all the time. Constantly "winning" with the public (meaning: pandering to the lowest common denominator) is not exactly a sign of quality and/or innovation. It's rather the extreme opposite sometimes. People need to learn that the biggest innovators and legends in the industry didn't always debut with #1 singles or albums - far from it. Journey 0
To be honest I just don't understand why so many more people bought 'Born This Way' after BTW and Judas compared to those who bought 'ARTPOP' after Applause and DWUW. But in the end who cares! One must remember that going into the BTW era Gaga was coming off of the huge success of TFM. That coupled with her massive promo, 'Born This Way' was going to be a big seller regardless. Personally, I love 'Born This Way' and 'ARTPOP' for different reasons, and Gaga has become one of those (few- less than 5) artists who I will always support because they deliver the goods. Helix 1,456
Y'all need to get that the sales an artist gets doesn't equate to the quality of their work... Remember Van Gogh? Everybody hated that guy! Look at the legacy he's left behind now! The Impact! An Artist is so much more than the amount of money they garner from their work. holyscheibe 0
Enjoy the music people stop obsessing over numbers some of you are taking all the fun out of being a GaGa fan. Seriously. This era hasn't been much fun since I started using this site. People need to focus on the music and less on charts and what people think of Gaga. Whispering 18,865
I know Gaga's main fanbase is young, but it is times like these that show how short-sighted and spoiled some of them are. Maybe it has to do with immaturity or perspective? Gaga debuted at #1 in all the major markets, including the US. Her WW sales for the first week will be well over 500K. Forbes just released an article naming her the 2nd highest paid musical act in 2013. (a year in which she cancelled almost her entire US tour and had major surgery and was laid up for 5 months) She's already had a top 5 hit song this album era and another hit song on its way. Pop stars have eras that are more successful than others. No pop star stays on top. Not MJ, not Madonna, no one! Some fans have such unrealistic expectations, they end up missing out on all the fun and joy behind the music. One day, you may look back at this time and wished that you just enjoyed what Gaga is giving you, instead of worrying about a bunch of idiots at cesspools like ATRL. Gaga is #1 in the US! The music is great! Enjoy it!
Journey 0
I don't get this "no promo" thing. For the last few months I felt like I heard something new about Gaga every other day, to the point where I heard people saying they were sick of hearing so much about Gaga recently. Maybe it's just my area. Gaga's online presence is always prominent, but her US promo has not been up to par. That of course seems to be changing with her next stops on Ellen and the AMA's. Michael 533
Just because that was before Clarity doesn't mean he was unknown, most of us knew who he was before they started working together his songs are easily the most uninspired and generic on the album and probably of her career. She cares about charts and I'm sure she's disappointed with these numbers no matter what she says publicly. Zedd was known purely by EDM fans until around 6 - 8 months ago. He was not known on the charts at all until Clarity. Therefore, your point about Gaga using Zedd on the album to benefit herself on the charts is wrong. And the point you raised about RedOne is also wrong, as his first hit song was Just Dance. When Gaga worked with him he hadn't produced any hit singles at that point. And as far as will.i.am goes, he produced 1 song that is unlikely to ever become a single. He isn't featured, so it's unlikely that in the event that it did become a single the general public would even realize that he's involved in it.
