It was a thin, flat screen with simple icons for ease of use and adoption. But what is the functional purpose of the flip feature? There isn’t one. This is the issue with their product designs and with many product designs these days that perform well in the market but ultimately have no cultural standing whatsoever (which would make them even better in the market btw). Their standing as one of the largest companies in the world has made them disinterested in the kind of grand innovation they were known for. It’s all branding at the end of the day, which is their bread and butter, but when the branding is only aesthetic deep rather than total product deep in a market beseeched with aesthetics (bc of Apple, mind you), what was once a signifier of refined status becomes a signifier of quick status which is to say, just one of the masses which is antithetical to the cool they want.
