Was “Dead Dance” worth getting no other single?

Im gonna be honest, like, VIY is a great song but I can’t understand the obsession with it. I feel like it’s one of those songs with huge potential to age badly, especially considering being overplayed after getting single treatment (with possibilities of me being wrong of course), but… I don’t know, there’s something about its production that feels overproduced I guess? (which IMHO it’s mostly on her voice).

It’s the same feeling I got from DCT, which I like a lot but I ended up overplaying it so much at the release that now Im getting tired of it.

I feel like there other better single options like KFL (perfectly sticky built yet a sophisticated structure and production that really gets you), and MAYBE GOE, which could potentially deliver a killer mv but I’m not really sure about its reception from gp.

Once again, I can be totally wrong but yeah :haroon:

If she doesn't release at least 3 more singles, she's going to regret it later.

Or she will move on with her life after the album and tour cycle is finished like she always does :ohwell:

I'm not ruling out the possibility of another single/video from the original album, especially if there's a deluxe coming next year (which I assume "The Dead Dance" is technically the lead for). "Vanish Into You" or "How Bad Do U Want Me" would be cute to close out the era, but I don't see a reality where we get both.

To be realistic, established MPGs barely have successful multiple proper single rollouts anymore. Dua had it with FN, Sabrina with SNS - both were up and coming ladies. Beyoncé, Taylor, Ariana - no one had multiple smash singles from their recent albums. It's quite hard for an established artist to hold the audience's excitement for a multi-single rollout anymore. So I don't think there's any security to think single treatment would turn any Mayhem track into a smash. Plus they clearly wanted to go with VIY - but GOE and HBDUWM were going head-to-head so there was no clear frontrunner. I'd much prefer a new song from the deluxe if it comes instead of an existing track made into a single.

It’s just sad to see them let it stall and move on to a lesser song that’s not even on the record.

its on the album girl, it'll be on physical copies when they do a mayhem deluxe/complete edition later

mother, what must i do?

From a stan perspective, what’s the point of getting a single? We already know the song so I guess the only difference is that we get a video? But we have a video for TDD

genuinely asking btw

Tbh imo it's frustrating when great songs don't become hits

Vanish Into You deserves its Shallow moment

Y’all… no other song off of Meyhem would’ve received even 10% of the promo/payola that TDD is getting, and TDD isn’t a smash hit (yet, just wait  :ohwell:) so no other song would’ve been “successful” lol

I would’ve loved if GOE, VIY, ZB, etc. would’ve gotten a video, they deserve it (really wish we got a Killah video tbh) but let’s face reality :traumatica:

It was worth it cause its a genius collaborative way to renew interest in Mayhem for the Grammy nomination thing. Plus y'all can yap and **** on the song + video, however they are both amazing!

But I dooooo wish that she'd have released something like Vanish or GOE (or hell even HBDYWM cause it woulr have ate) in like May as a cute summer hit.

DWAS doesn’t count to me because it was a single BEFORE it was on mayhem and was originally NOT apart of mayhem.

In that sense, even Telephone, Perfect Illusion, Sour Candy, and Sine From Above weren't originally meant to be a part of their respective albums. How does these count but not DWAS in Mayhem?

And then it dropped and at least 60% of the fans seemed disappointed and underwhelmed to say the least…

No. 6% of the fans, who are a very loud minority with Burj Khalifa level high expectations, had expressed their disappointment. However it's generally received very well by the fanbase as well as the GP. One common complaint they give is the chorus is repetitive and boring, which is not true anyway because it's very catchy enough to be a commercial single which can be seen in its radio callout scores.

But the truth of the matter is that no matter what she did, people would've complained anyway.

You've summarised it well. There are always some 6% people who are too loud to express their unpopular opinions in the initial 24-48 hours at least.

Dwas was made and released as a stand alone single - both Gaga and Bruno stated it would not be on either of their albums after they first released it. So yes very different from the songs you just listed because those songs were already apart of their respective albums at the time of their release and not added into the album AFTER being released as a stand alone single. Very very different.

and idk what part of the internet you’re on but everywhere I see dead dance discussed, like I said, the majority are bored and disappointed with it.

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”

Especially when Disease and Debra are easily the best pair of videos to come out of an era since BTW

I agree Disease and Debra are her 2 best videos :ladyhaha:

On a serious note, pretty much every song on MAYHEM deserves a music video, especially Garden Of Eden. Unfortunately that’s not gonna happen, I’m not sad though because she served us Disease and Abracadabra
