It was majorly tied to the nouveau rich class of men chasing peroxide blonde bimbos by works like Gentleman Prefer Blondes from 1925. The first reference to this stereotype is 1923 in a song. It then became a staple of Hollywood films in the interwar period. Do you seriously believe that there is nothing happening to minorities in the US? Are the documented cases of natural born non-white American citizens being detained by ICE raids made up? The fact that AE purposefully chose Sydney Sweeney, whose success/allure has also been attributed to the resurgence of hard right conservative values, to stir up debate proves that the campaign is working and that there are no consequences for being a racist troll at best or a Nazi at worst. Which interestingly comes back to why the denim reference color is blue (that goes to the history of its creation and how directly refers to “blue blood” class of people). Also, the history behind the eagle as the animal and its implications behind the representation of the American Independence history. When you see everything together and make the connection points, we can see how problematic and serious is the debate actually.
