New York Democratic Mayor Primary is Today

Can someone explain this for a German Boy? I see a lot of people posting about this as if he just got elected as the new mayor, but he still needs to run against a Republican candidate, right?

Correct, but NYC is not going to elect a Republican. It's one of the most liberal places in the United States.

Well, they have elected Republican mayors before (most recently, Giuliani  and Bloomberg), but let’s hope that doesn’t happen this time

Yeah, Republicans didn't even have a primary. They just threw this Sliwa guy in 'cause they know he's gonna lose.

Giuliani was elected nearly 30 years ago and Bloomberg is hardly a conservative. I think he even endorsed Clinton and ran as a Democrat in 2020...or something like that?  

It's more like NYC wouldn't elect a conservative and they certainly wouldn't elect anyone engaging with today's Republican party.

Bloomberg was a Democrat before he ran for NYC mayor and left the Republican party pretty quickly after. 

But with the current NYC election being 

Adams (Incumbent Independent)

Silwa (Republican non-Trumper)

Mamdani (Democrat)

And Cuomo openly refusing to dejy running as an indy. 

This race is in no way sealed or predictable

NYC voting in a republican mayor in 2025 or a no-name independent would be equivalent of Jesus walking on earth. Silwa won't nearly have as many resources, funding, or public exposure compared to Mamdani's team. A sliver of doubt will exist everywhere in life-- that doesn't mean the race isn't predictable.

Hopefully this sets a precedent to trust and allow younger politicians to take charge of this country's future cuz CLEARLY these old farts are living in 1940 and we DON'T want to go back to that

I think Eric Adams is the only real competition for Mamdani and even then I think right now he has skyrocketed to national popularity and NYC is ready for him.
