And yet nobody has been interested in 80+ years despite some insane war mongering Neo conservatives claiming they’re gonna be the death of us all. Yes, they were relevant back in World War II but they have not been relevant since. Not even Russia really cares that much anymore. That’s the only reason Israel is picking a fight. Everyone’s gonna let them.

This was unfortunately was a fairly predictable outcome. But it will also be the extent to which America or anyone else gets involved, which I suppose is a small plus for the region as a whole (full scale outside involvement would be a disaster and everyone knows it.)

For all the other crazy **** they like, MAGA politicians are mostly very nakedly not keen on war, and their base isn’t either. Especially with someone that doesn’t pose any real threat and doesn’t offer any real use. 

It’s horrible we’re gonna even be reinforcing Israel’s defense force, but unfortunately Netanyahu is not a complete idiot and successfully backed Trump into a corner.

That said it is now going to be a lot harder for him to make moves like this and still get the benefit of unconditional support. There will come a point where he makes a mess that’s too big and none of his allies will show up to help. He thinks that Israel’s strategic usefulness is too great to be ignored but it isn’t. America has a really vested interest in Israel’s survival and that is why we have helped as much as we have so far. But there is also a point where their liability outweighs their usefulness and he is quickly approaching it.

If they **** up bad enough, they will be abandoned. The number of US politicians willing to commit the political suicide of sending us to war when there is no appetite for it is small. For some reason, Netanyahu has not seemed to realize that. He is gonna keep ****ing around until he reaches a line even the Trump admin’s not willing to cross.

I would phrase it as the US sided with the Arabs, but that has always been the case for decades. Probably because of oil, money, military bases, and always being a loyal ally to America.

Seems like a threat to Cyprus, which was warned by Hezbollah in the past and which is the EU member closest to the Middle East.

Yep. The 3 main superpowers are either hostile to the state (US) or agnostic at best (Russia/China). 

A weakened Iran would make the state desperate to sell its natural resources and that means all 3 superpowers could cash in on the cheap.

I'm not convinced Tehran has the military might to back up its threats due to the last few years of targeted attacks by Israel. Especially after the last big missile salvos. 

Its lost a lot of its resources in supplying Hamas/Hezbollah and possibly the Houthis. All of which have lost significant resources themselves. 

And Russia doesn't have the resources to spare at the moment or the inclination to help in the region as Assad found out. 

It's alliance and powerbase has essentially collapsed at this point.
