Yeah, if you actually watch the clip (:triggered:) it's pretty clear she's listing women who were unashamedly sexual throughout their careers, despite it harming their public image, and how that helped open doors for queer artists. Gaga has done many things but (minus BTW) her music alone has never really been that boundary pushing.

I think Gaga pushed a LOT of boundaries in music. Gaga stood up for the trans community by saying "so what if I am" to being asked about being a "hermaphrodite" when almost all other artists would have shut that down with quickness. There's so many examples like that. But. Chapell was still very much taken out of context. And this entire site obviously just likes hearing themselves talk, because it's pretty evident nobody even bothered clicking the source despite it being on page 2.

Im more confused about her crediting Rihanna lmao.

Nicki? I guess I could see how someone extremely stupid could see her work as breaking boundaries for queer people :icant:

First the stupid political takes, now this…

You could try finding the source for this story? Or even just watching it from the link on page 2?

So here's what I'm assuming they're referencing. In which she essentially says that all of these artists owned SEXUALITY in their public image and in their music in order to allow Chapell to succeed. Aka Nicki talking about sex, Madonna talking about sex, Rihanna talking about sex, allowed for Chapell to talk about sex. Overall sexual conversation paved a space for queer music.

Y'all love to hate. It's so interesting to see from "Kindness Punks" who have had to defend their fav from the same malicious sh*t. If we believed everything reported online Gaga would probably have her second child with Bradley Cooper. Come on y'all.

How would those artists singing about sex pave the way for queer music exactly? Rihanna’s most risqué hit was probably S&M, and those songs were accepted because they were coming from a straight pov.

And she's EVERYWHERE in queer spaces/culture. Specially for gen-z, you could hardly navigate the internet on gay spaces without finding Nicki; whether it is in the form of her music, her lyrics, a quote, a meme, her fashion, she's literally everywhere :laughga:

I can understand why a lot of people resist her as a queer icon: her unexisting activism, her rapist husband, her brother, her beefs, etc, I get it. But you can't deny she is an influential figure in the "queer" community.

She is. I'm not even her fan, but it's the truth :vegas:

So basically "queers picked her, she didn't pick them"

I can live with that but Chappell's comment sounds just as dumb as when Jojo Siwa said MJ invented "gay pop" :icant:

I'm just like 🧍‍♂️

Mister G

I would probably argue that Chappel is mildly correct, not fully in the sense that there are two things people are forgetting that need to be accounted for...

Number 1...when Nicki Minaj broke into mainstream late 2000's and her debut album dropped in 2010, I can speak for a fact that many a gay and queer folk that I knew ate...that...album...up. And most of them also stanned Popneka especially with her RedOne produced tracks Starships and Pound The Alarm. Granted we know that Roman Reloaded as an era was very polarizing and divisive compared to the OG Pink Friday, mainly because people thought she was trying to pull a Gaga but also still be the self-proclaimed Queen of Rap. That was an interesting time. You had to be there, and on here on GGD was even messier LOL.

Number 2...I think where people get mixed signals or even flat out discredit Nicki's "queer allyship" is the fact that she went the whole "I like girls sometimes yeah I'd say I'm bi" and then in 2020 she said she was never Bi and fully hetero. Like hunni with comments that golden it's hard not to believe that she pretended to be Bi to pander to the LGBTQ+ community, and not to mention more recently she is married to a s** offender...registered on a list and everything. And for me, as a Gay Man I can't imagine she truly cares for the Queer Community considering she married a gr@pist. That sends a message that she's okay with people being targeted for assault of any kind as long as it's not her and how many people on here have shared their stories about past traumas and having been victims of that (men and women alike) and yet somehow Nicki is viewed as making Queer music mainstream? Nah I'll have to disagree with Miss Roan's statement.

Genuinely think Nicki and Riri are homophobic and have done quite literally nothing to promote gay rights but go off miss roan… :icant:
