Several people have been injured at a Berlin Pride event, police say, after reports that a vehicle drove into a crowd in the city centre.

An intensive manhunt is currently under way, police say, as they urged people to avoid the area.

The injured are being treated by emergency services near Tiergarten park, where the incident took place, police added.

The annual pride event, Christopher Street Day, has been cancelled.

"We believe that a vehicle entered the Tiergarten park and hit several people and injured them," police posted on social media.

Images show a large emergency services presence at the scene, with one person seen entering an ambulance on a stretcher.

It is not yet clear how many people have been injured in the incident.

A number of police officers as well as rescue units from the fire department have been deployed to the area.

Earlier on Saturday, huge crowds took part in a parade throughout the city, which ended near the park for a series of events in the evening.

Thank you for this. This has hit me quite hard. I have a friend who's attending and while I'm confident he'll be safe, the fact we even have to worry at all is just disgusting. Why won't they just leave us the **** alone?

Hope your friend is safe - and while it's impossible to not worry, remember it's not uncommon for messages & calls to not get through for a bit during events like this because of the spike in usage. So silence isn't confirmation of anything.

I’m sorry. Sending hugs. 

1) Quite simply, in this community, let’s look after each other…There is no use of hate WITHIN our community. Period.

2) and we must lobby to government and organisations for even tighter security.

3) Importantly, pushing education education education, and if there’s any hint that people are saying ‘that’s too woke’ ‘we don’t need to educate kids on LGBT’ etc etc… Hold this event up as a CRITICAL example that THIS is the WHY: to move us further forward to a world where we can all be treated at human and hate isn’t perpetuated……

That's really thoughtful, thank you. Even the thought of him scrambling in a crowd or something....ugh.

100% agree. The ****ing bullshit pushed by Elon Musk, Trump, Farage et al has got to stop. Why do we even allow it as a society? I'm so angry.

I’m gutted. My heart goes to the victims and their families, especially the one who didn’t make it. I hope the injured can heal and everyone stays safe.

I’m just so devastated and horrified, pride matters so much and I feel we are under attack more than we have been in a very long time. Be safe out there and be proud but this is yet another example of why we need to stick together and fight against the hate we are receiving from so many directions. We’ve done it before and we will do it again, but it’s so sad we are here yet again 🏳️‍🌈

It doesn't matter who the perpetrator was, groups like the AfD have paved the way for stuff like this to happen.
