Why again do so many dislike Katy Perry now?

I thought her last decent song was Birthday which is at least 10 years old now.  Then there was that incident she pressured a 19 year old on American Idol to give her his first kiss...  I didn't like that behavior at all from her at the time but as it turns out the kid grew up to be arrested for child ****ography possession.

Anyway though I just largely haven't paid much attention to her over the years but her perception seems to be very negative in general.

Why is that again?  Just asking

I have very mixed feelings on Katy, some of which I know lots of other people share.

She has some fantastic music, that much is undeniable. I'm even a Witness defender.

I think what rubs people the wrong way is that whilst many of her peers have evolved, grown and changed, she has spent years and years trying the same shtick, seemingly baffled at why it stopped working and became more and more of a tone-deaf caricature of herself. 143 is almost an Onion-like mockery of what people think pop music is. People don't like that one of the big pop icons is now dancing with a talking poo and making music videos where she uses a urinal dressed as Wendy the Welder. Frankly, I think people just find her annoying.

I, unlike many, don't think she is some kind of deeply morally suspect individual. But I do think she lacks self-awareness to an impressive degree, which often results in her doing questionable or poorly thought-out things.

Let me preface this by saying that the stan communities are often incredibly misogynistic in tearing down female artists for "flopping", dragging their worth as people based on bad music, etc.

Katy experienced this during the Witness era in particular - she tried to evolve artistically, with mostly negative results, and was relentlessly mocked. That said, her decision to work with Dr. Luke again for the 143 era after all he's been accused of and claim that "my music was always controversial" as a defense was just plain gross.

Crticism is 100% warranted, even if the misogyny isn't

Who did she bully? I didn't see that! That's not very kind of her

I’ve always thought she was a disingenuous, largely untalented hack, it also just turns out she’s a shitty person, too. Glad everyone else caught up :vegas:

Addison Rae

-she worked with alleged abuser dr luke again after her friend kesha’s legal battle against him (Gaga was literally deposed in this case, yall don’t remember or..? how can you guys like that woman knowing the producer of 143 and his lawyer literally triggered Gaga in court? yikes)

-she made tired desperately pandering music with zero taste

-racist/micro-aggressions when describing a song of hers as “having a little bit of curry in it”

-extremely out of touch with her place in pop culture

-relies on nostalgia from her past success

-shaded mariah carey for being a throwback just for her to become even more of a throwback than mariah

-shaded britney spears’ mental health

i can go on and on. needless to say i don’t see it for ole girl.

The main reason I don’t get about people turning on her is that at the beginning of her career especially she was so hard set on pushing the adorkable ditzy edgy schtick and she’s always said and done problematic things and pretended not to know better (Plz refer to the first song she ever released). People have just decided to pay attention to that now because she’s older and her music isn’t as great/loved.
