RudraCNG 14,319
I mean, none of us would be here posting on an online forum if throughout history, people had not used violence to achieve human rights and had instead waited for the system to “legislate” lol 1

People should feel judged if they willingly engage and/or encourage this behavior. The words you say (whether in real life or online) affect those around you. To me it’s common sense not to make light of such matters, especially not in the way people do now. I don’t mean to police others, but I’m entitled to my opinion on this. If you have seen what I have seen on my social media timeline the past day surrounding this topic, you’d probably say the same. It’s objectively revolting and deranged behavior. Not to mention, as I explained already, all those thousands upon thousands of inappropriate comments people leave are coming from real people - real people that exist all around us. That’s what makes it the worst for me. This type of behavior and mindset being normalized is concerning to me, is that so surprising? It doesn’t really matter anyways. I corrected my original comment with a clarification on what I meant. I’ll just end this by saying everyone can keep making ‘jokes’ about it all, keep making and watching your fancams and edits featuring Luigi and keep generally just being weird about him and this whole situation …. but - excuse my language - it’s f*cked up. Sure, you're entitled to your opinion, but if you're going allow your stance to appear judgmental, and encourage it to be seen as judgmental, you should reasonably expect that it's going to incite response. You come in with provocation, get the appropriate feedback, and then complain about people ganging up on you? It shows a real lack of understanding for the situation you've put yourself in, at best. It's perfectly fine to be judgmental and moralizing, but if you can't handle the response, it's probably not a role you should try and fulfill. Use this as a learning experience for the future, in case you're considering commenting on such a sensitive topic with such inflammatory commentary. 1 2

If my (initial) comment is seriously seen as provocative by anyone, maybe it’s time to either re-read, reflect or both. Also, like others, you addressed virtually nothing about my comment beyond trying to frame me as needlessly judgmental again, when judging by comments (both on this thread as well as beyond, unfortunately) directed at me people are no less judgmental, let alone provocative. Some of y’all are just being cruel … and for what? Me rightfully calling out the degeneracy people blatantly express online about this? This whole thing just feels like one big inside joke to me, and it’s not one I feel comfortable perpetuating or enabling. A person died, another person (one that is being idolized by everyone, but in a very insincere way) is likely heading towards lifelong imprisonment or worse … and all people can do is put on a tough guy attitude trying to justify literal murder combined with completely objectifying and obsessing over a stranger online in a wildly inappropriate matter. And I’m the person that’s being inflammatory on - what is now suddenly to y’all - a sensitive topic here? If people feel called out, maybe that’s for a reason. Maybe that’s worth unpacking, instead of getting defensive. I never said people should merely mourn the murdered CEO or that the motives behind the murder weren’t valid … I merely expressed concern for what to me just seems like deranged behavior being perpetuated online. It's been normalized for a long time now I get your point and I won't try to convince you otherwise (not do I think I could) but put the silly memes aside for a second. That's just people being dumb online for lols, every person born after 1990 injects a lot of cynical humor into everything and the online stan community is an extreme version of it. Instead, consider why people absolutely do not care about this CEO being killed. Or why they actively celebrate it. Then empathize with their feelings instead of shaming the people who aren't really behaving in a serious way anyway (like thirsting over him and his hot bod). I remember when my grandpa had a heart attack and needed a specialized ambulance. A ten minute ride cost us $9000. His insurance didn't cover it, veteran benefits didn't touch it. I haven't even had a consistent doctor since I was 15 'cause insurance is a luxury that doesn't pay out as often as it needs to to justify cost. It's literally cheaper for me to pay out of pocket for whatever care I need And the reason people are put in such desperate situations, many millions of Americans are far worse off than I am, is 'cause a bunch of assholes have decided their fortunes are worth more than our lives. Well, I say our rights are more important than their lives. If Luigi here taking advantage of his 2nd amendment rights changes something (and it has) then I'm here for it. And if things don't change enough and it happens again, I'll be here for that too. Too many people are suffering and I'm personally willing to suspend my pacifist demeanour if people can just get their medication or worry about getting well when they're sick/injured instead of how much it costs to get sick/injured. Or in other words, THEY decided to make it "us or them" so they could get rich. I choose us 1

Celloo Deng 53,588
He made some points. If these rich parasites keep taking and taking, and widening the divide, the poor get more desperate and demand a change. Except I didn’t call anyone specifically a degenerate, I called out their behaviors as such. ‘Celebrating’ the death of a human being, excessively sexualizing and objectifying a stranger online (thousands of comments again, all vile, it was unavoidable yesterday) and generally turning a political assassination that led to a death and the destroyed future of the murderer (regardless of his intents) into a meme is degenerate behavior, full stop. If pointing that out makes me some kind of ‘judgemental moralizer’, then so be it. Also, I’m not crying, I’m annoyed. I’m annoyed at how it seems people deliberately twist my words, misconstrue my comments and make it seem like I’m dismissing the cause or political aspect of things … when to me it simply boils down to ethics. Nobody so far has actually addressed the main point of my comments. There’s no point in continuing this discussion if people can’t even be bothered to read my full comment, simply join the others and mob me. You know how Americans and Brits argue over how to say Aluminum? This is how this sentence reads. Saying anyone is behaving in a way, is calling them that. Its this obtuse-ness and lack of self awareness that has just led to people increasingly turning on you and getting their backs up.

lastpopicon 4,204
this is like the perfect storm, he is educated and very good looking, has varying political opinions that are not the typical left/right, he isn't hateful to anyone and choose a cause that resonates to literally anybody that isn't a billionaire. Don't get me wrong, what he did it IS a crime, but he basically threw his good life away to highlight a very big problem within American society, idk, as a European its wild to me that people need to pay to get healthcare, I get everything for FREE if I have an issue, my country has many issues but I can count on that, unless it's dental. But Americans pay like crazy for insurance and they even might be denied coverage on life/death situations, this is NOT how we should treat humans in a modern civilization. I pray that the CEO wasn't killed in vain and something actually good comes out of this, Americans standing together for this one issue that seemly affects every average American. You may want to talk about other things, but that is not on my agenda for the day.

And judging by its meaning, it perfectly describes the behavior of the people I’m calling out (most of which aren’t even on this site!). Would ‘uncivilized’ be better? ‘Distasteful’? Would it make such a difference? And you and another particular member have no right claiming I’m behaving and interacting inappropriately with others in this thread, when it’s you and others that have been giving me ‘LMAO’-reactions as a way to bully me (a warnable offense according to mods, I may add), constantly misconstrue my words and leave out particular parts of my comment to suit your narratives and one person even went as far as to straight up bully me on their account. Meanwhile, I haven’t given any inappropriate reactions and have been nothing but eloquent in my responses. Do y’all honestly think those comments and behavior I’m calling out is normal? Or defensible? Is me choosing a particular word (which is not a slur, or even a particularly offensive word) to describe it really so awful of me? That’s your point? I reacted to some of your posts because I thought your behaviour was laughable. Degenerate & degeneracy has a long history of use as a slur used in the promotion of bigotry. As does uncivilised. It has been used through out history in America superficially to target and attack minorities. It was repeatedly used and sometimes still sees use as a way of pushing white supremacist narratives about black men & black women. It has been used repeatedly against Lesbians and Gay men especially during the 70s/80s and the AIDS crisis. It is currently often used by transphobes. You're ignorance of this is not a defence. So yes, that kind of language in what should be a civil debate on this forum is going to piss people off and put a target on your back. And tbh I do think the shooter was justified. People have spent decades following the "civilised" and respectful way of handling political issues and all that has happened in America is that the likes of that CEO have increased their exploitation. Am I really supposed to cry that a man who led a company that profitted off the deliberate removal of people's healthcare and forced physical, emotional and mental pain onto countless thousands of people got shot dead? By all reports he died almost instantly, he faced less pain than the majority of his victims ever have. If you want me to address your argument. Then here. I think it is ridiculous and speaks to your character that you are more animated and offended by the death of an abuser being celebrated than you are by the abuse he propagated against thousands of desperate people in their hour of deepest need. Edited December 11 by Bronco I went and checked. I lmao reacted to a single post you made on this thread. A single post. 2
