The White House is saying to Americans in SK to basically stay away from trouble and follow what the SK government tells them to do, which I interpret as basically saying they don't know how this is going to turn out yet

Same as the UK and China. Its a badly managed coup even if it succeeds at this point. 

My 1st thought is he did it without securing support and the military now see an opportunity to get everything possible out of him in return for support.

It's so absurd what's going on in South Korea. According to the president there, you are already considered a pro-North Korea sympathizer if you like Karl Marx and if you do, he is allowed to proclaim martial law because of "preventing North Korea".

Presidents and politicians are becoming way too confident lately imo, and doing a LOT of **** that should get them sent straight to jail. I wish there was some kind of power to punish them but it seems like they'll always get away with the **** that they do.
