My take: the guy is fighting for his country's survival, he'll take any opportunity to speak to western audiences about Ukraine. He probably did it for the interview, but Vogue is always about portraits and they release the portraits before even the interview.

That's not what I meant. I fully support Ukrain in this war, but posing for Vogue might give a bad impression

There is an accompanying interview for sure, which was probably what was proposed to him.

I guess Vogue asked for photoshoots and he was just being polite and accepted

Am i the only one who finds this very very very weird? Almost inappropriate?

this specific image is giving me perfume ad, it's such a weird choice? they should've used "real life" pictures, instead of these glamed up ones

+ this one reminds me of this Screenshot-2022-07-27-211211.png

Before becoming president he was an actor I think?, or some kind of celebrity in Ukraine. This doesn't surprise me at all :bear:

and his wife is a screenwriter. So they both have entertainment industry background.

But at least they're not as shallow as most celebrities. I still admire the fact that he stayed in Kyiv in the early days. At the time I was convinced that it was a matter of days before he was captured or killed. No shot Biden or any other president would've stayed despite the high threat

Mmmm yeah i don’t like this. The optics of the leader of a country in war posing for Vogue is.. dissonant?

Even if it’s for “awareness” etc.. i think there are other ways to accomplish that without a photoshoot.

There is literally nothing wrong with what he is doing.

I guess a president can't bring attention to an ongoing war through modern means that grabs people's attention.

A celebrity? His country in on war fgs. Isn't it shallow to appear for a fashion magazine right now? Sure, he has all the right to use all the means so the world don't forget about the situation, but a fashion magazine? It's so disturbing to me

i'm gonna say this for the third time: VOGUE doesn't just do photoshoots, they do interviews, even with politicians, including Jill & Biden recently.

You just want to be outraged by anything. Give them a break.

And with all due respect, who are you to lecture them on what they can do for their country during war time? Did you stay in Kyiv when there is a russian bounty on your head, and Putin unleashed the chechen fighters in the suburbs of Kyiv with one goal, to find and assasinate him and yet he refused american offer to evacuate despite the high level of threat that he'd face imminent death or capture? So please let's not give lessons of morality and patriotism to people who are living this reality.

And who are you to lecture anyone who doesn't agree with your point of view? Patronizing much

Yet he's doing a photoshoot with his wife with war backgrounds while they pose.

This is disgusting.

It is not a "war background", they're living a war right now
