Old bops you've only just discovered?

As someone who's addicted to listening to custom playlists that people have made for the GTA V Nonstop Pop FM radio channel, I'm always finding hidden gems that I never knew existed, most commonly, songs from before 2010. Here's some that I've found that I've been obsessed with lately:

How apt that a megarate for the album this came from just happened (where this got #4 best track). I literally just heard this song for the first time ever today through a playlist and was blown away. This reminds me of Dirty Diana but so much more awesome in some ways, if that's possible. The perfect mixture of rock and RnB, sexy without being explicit and the extended guitar work is next level. I had to stop what I was doing and just rock tf out. It was only released in a few territories, which is why its probably escaped a lot of people's notice (it went #2 in my country - taste!). @PartySick I'm seeing more and more why you love his music so much, it just seems to age like fine wine. When people say I'm too harsh with my critique of music, it's because I know stuff of this caliber exists and when I hear it, everything else just pales in comparison. Seriously one of the best songs I've ever heard.

This is like a modern take on 80's music that also encapsulates modern music wonderfully. This band have basically no international promotion, so it's not surprising they seem to be unknown but this would've been a huge hit if it was promoted right.

This is such a cute little bop, a product of its time but great with it. How was this not a hit at the time? It's got catchiness in its DNA.

This video looks so familiar but I've definitely not heard the song until recently. This sounds super ahead of its time, or is it just me? This came out in 1993 but sounds like it could've maybe come out in 2015 or something. What a timeless song to relax and vibe to.

God bless GTA V custom playlists. So, share some of yours. What are great songs you've only just heard that came out quite some time ago?

Taste :applause:

He was honestly the best producer/composer out there. I said this in the megarate thread but the Dangerous album specifically shows how talented he was at walking the line between complex and interesting music without crossing that line and making a song sound cluttered or too busy or noisy.

Every note, every bit of percussion, every instrument, in every song - it all works in perfect harmony to invoke a feeling, either emotional or physical :flutter:

I could go on for days :diane:

Years, actually :diane:

this song is brilliant, it's cool how Mike includes a rock track on almost all of his albums. I love his work with Slash.

Between the Sheets - The Isley Brothers

Midnight Pretenders - Tomoko Aran

Plus lots of Gorillaz songs

Not discover, but rediscover:

These came out when I was like 5 years old, so they hold a very special place in my heart, and it's nice to rediscover them through streaming :diane:

Yeah, I notice all the little intricacies too. His hooks hit you like a weight and they're embedded in your mind forever. I looked up other people's first time reactions to this song - they were just like mine. I notice so many of his songs actually sound even better than when I first heard them. Songs that get fresher with every listen are rare. They command so much attention too. They're hard to have as background noise as you just want to focus on them. The gift shop where I work had an MJ playlist one day (didn't match our aesthetic but ok) and I was sitting behind the curtain in our stock room on my break, doing sitting-down chair dancing to Dirty Diana while eating my cheese sandwich and I'm not even someone who really dances to songs.

Maybe you'll like my pop playlist I made for work! It's not finished yet because I wanna add some more top hits from the 2000's, 90's and 80's, but it's got a lot of pop on it!

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
