Yeah they couldve edited the more business/not as entertaining moment and had this storyline put instead

Yes, exactly, because storywise this was the most interesting thing - if it hadn't been for Patrizia putting a hit on him, nobody would have ever made that movie. As sad as it is what happened - this is the main storyline and the focus should've been that, because this is what interests people. - you know - why people do such bad things.

Yes, but the thing is - it really did happen in real life. It happened. Life is hard like that and in my opinion they could've shown that since it was a strong reason why Patrizia was so mad and decided to put a hit on him.

In the book it says this:

“Patrizia has been diagnosed with a brain tumor the size of a billiard
ball,” he told Liliana in a strained, low voice after Silvana and Alessandra
had left. “Now I understand why she has been so aggressive,” he said softly.
Silvana had asked Maurizio if he could take care of the two girls while
she cared for Patrizia—he had told her it would be difficult; Corso Venezia
wasn’t ready yet, and he had no place for them to stay in his bachelor
apartment. Furthermore, things were coming to a head with Investcorp and
he traveled often. He said he would be happy to have lunch with them
whenever he could. Patrizia felt even more disillusioned when she heard his
response.

The morning of May 26, Patrizia lay on a hospital gurney, her dark hair
completely shorn for the operation. She had kissed her daughters and
squeezed her mother’s hand; but until the orderlies wheeled her away, she
kept a constant lookout for Maurizio. He didn’t appear.
“There I was—I didn’t know if I was going to come out of that room
alive and he didn’t even bother to show up,” said Patrizia later. “Even
though we were separated, I was still the mother of his daughters.”

When Patrizia woke up in an anesthetic haze several hours later, she
strained to focus on the faces around her bed. She saw her mother,
Alessandra, and Allegra, but once again, Maurizio wasn’t there.

I believe that this was a huge reason for her rage.

Oh and this is also what she said in that original voice recording:

"...especially seeing how easy it was to weasel out of your
responsibility to your daughters and my mother the day of my
operation, without which they gave me a month to live…. I want to
tell you that you are a monster, a monster that belongs on the front
pages of all the papers, because I want everyone to know what you
are really like.... (....)

Maurizio, I am not going to give you a minute of peace. Don’t make
up excuses, saying they wouldn’t let you come visit me…my little
darlings risked losing their mother and my mother risked losing her
only daughter. You hoped…. You tried to crush me, but you
couldn’t. Now I have looked death in the face…. (...)

Maurizio, the inferno for you is yet to come."

He was such a horrible father :wtf: This should’ve been included in the film but maybe they didn’t want to make him look that bad since he was murdered.

Yeah maybe, but I say : why not show it as it was? He wasn't innocent either. He certainly didn't deserve to die for this, but for sure he wasn't a nice person.

Schwerk

Stuff like this makes me wonder what the movie would've been like if they'd dared to focus fully on Patrizia and Mauricio, not so much the business side of things and Rodolfo, Aldo and Paolo.

Love the comic relief, but like Tom Ford said, it was not funny IRL

Patrizia could reasonably resolve the parting between them. Divorce, alimony and peace of mind for life. If it weren't for the murder, she wouldn't be in jail. She felt too emotionally rejected and took revenge on him with murder, not reason.

Having such little time between Maurizio's new girlfriend and his murder made Patrizia's whole character read as just the "jealous ex-wife" type - it makes you almost forget all the tiny moments that built up the tension in their relationship

It's an important part of the story why did they get rid of that scene :fail:

Honestly, there’s only so much you can fit into a film… I do agree with the idea that a mini-series might have been better suited to do the story justice.

Well yeah. There is never a "reason" to kill anyone, but this part of the story helps to "understand her rage".

And I think it's literally the biggest mistake they made, because it would've made so much more sense as to why Patty was so mad and furious.

In real life she had a brain tumor and they told her she may not wake up from this surgery and Maurizio didn't even visit her once.

Yes, one of the criticisms I have about the movie is that they could have put more focus on certain things, and one of these things was how Patrizia fell into that state. It jumps too quickly to her deciding to kill him without seeing the different stages of her grief.
