For me this sounds very russian/east european - and Gaga doesn't sound like that at all

Lol...One day Gaga will do a movie where she will have to speak  with a russian accent for real...then people will see the difference :ladyhaha:. I can imagine her speaking like the girl in the video :ladyhaha:

Like I said she can't be totally perfect, but she sounds enough italian while speaking english. She did a very decent job, particularly when you listen Patrizia speaking.

Anyway this discussion it's becoming weird, like, Gaga's accent it's very decent, she didn't make a foul of herself playing Patrizia, she did a good job, even if to some she could nail a few words better.

one last thing I'm gonna say... Patrizia does sound italian, but she didn't have the strongest italian accent when she was younger, because she has lived in New York and obviously learned how to speak english. (better than the average italian person)

Now, so many years later, she sounds a bit more italian again because after more than 20 years of not having lived abroad and speaking english, you kinda loose it a bit. That's normal.

Ok, let's agree to disagree. :poot: I think she pronounced it absolutely right. In spanish u would pronounce it pretty much the same.

Aren't there any real italians on here who could tell us how she pronounced the names? (The thing is: We all still see Gaga and know that she usually speaks english, so we're all not used to this)

I know how to settle this.

People probably also said that Jennifer Lawrence sounded italian in Red Sparrow. lol

I don't know why people keep confusing a russian and italian accent. It's not hard to tell. We should make a game: Put together a video of russians and italians speaking and u have to guess which one is italian and which one is russian. :huntyga:

Actually, Patrizia's accent is rougher than Gaga's... Gaga does a convincing accent with a few minor mishaps, however, when someone is speaking a foreign language, their accent and pronunciation is not always exactly the same, even for the same words, so the fluctuations are actually accurate.

(I am Slavic, I speak fluent Italian and speak with Italians in both Italian and English on a daily basis)

What are your thoughts on how she pronounced Aldo and Paolo?

Have a look at this. She said "It's better to cry in Rolls-Royce than to....."

The "cry" is pronounced typical italian with a rolled r while the Rolls Royce is pronounced right with the english sounding r.

So even in one sentence they don't always sound the same, because sometimes after some words your tongue gets tired or after saying something wrong, you want to say the next word right again. I know this from me when I had to speak spanish... some words you pronounce very good and other words you suck at. It can also be because you're having a bad day... nobody sounds the same all the time - especially not when you're speaking another language. These fluctuations are normal.

I think the "L" in Aldo and Paolo is a bit too soft, but then again everyone has their own way of speaking, even when they are a native speaker. What I have noticed with Gaga is that she tries to overdo the simple Italian words in an effort to make them sound more Italian. I think that is what most people expect from an Italian accent, "Mammmmmmaaaa miiiiiaaaaaa, che bellllllo, cccccciiiiiaoooo amooorrreee!" so that's why they think that Gaga's more  subtle accent sounds Russian.

I’m italian from Milan and gaga does not sound as an italian from Milan. Anyway she doesn’t sound russian neither. I work with many russians and their accent is way different. Said that,  Gaga is not bad, she tried. Is not easy to emulate an accent without falling into stereotypes.

p.s Patrizia sounds exactly as an italian from Milano. Nothing about her accent is influenced by living abroad

Yeah what I'm realizing is that someone with an accent could say an Italian name slightly differently if they are speaking with the accent.

I still think she said the names more like an American but I can agree with you, it doesn't take away from the overall accent and in fact maybe Patrizia would have said them that way.

This makes the fandom seem so desperate :saladga:

Low-key this, I mean why are we still dwelling on this? Gaga herself said she didn't want her accent to be sensationalized, so what are we doing here exactly?

Let the film come out and speak for itself.

The A sound though? Shouldn't it be Ah-ldo? Not Al as in Al Pacino? And I also said that the first "O" in Paolo should have more distinction, she kind of said "Powlo" which sounds Americanized to me.

CC: @RBNLM, please let me know your thoughts too!

I will do anything to prove @Mother of Puppies wrong. :bradley:
