Messaging like this is what’s gonna keep people away from getting a vaccine. If the inconvenience is so annoying and it won’t even work then what’s the point. It’s def not my POV, and its dumb, but talk like won’t help secure the 80%+ needed for heard immunity…

You can currently do most of this with masks, social distancing, and if vaccinated even better.

Once most of your loved ones are vaccinated it will all feel more normal.

Please keep the hope. This is almost over with vaccines rolling out to the world.

I wouldnt throw fireworks just yet. With multiple variants popping up, varying levels of protection from vaccines against each abd the fact that vaccines only prevent severe illness but doesnt mean u cant catch or spread covid...

It may be premature to say its almost over

Well it definitely should help but its not a full immunity like a vaccine for polio, tetnus or smallpox... it prevents severe desiese but u can still get it and we do not know fully yet tl what extent theres still a chance some vaccinated ppl could on occasion still spread it

Then theres the variants which become an unpredictable factor

So we dont actually know that getting 80% of populatiom vacconated would with herd immunity end this. It may or may not

A study in Israel recently came out that showed the Pfizer vaccine also prevented asymptomatic cases and spread.

Even if not, once most are vaccinated, and they still highly protect against variants, this will be over.

COVID will be in the past soon if the world gets this right.

All vaccines prevent severe illness and death. Which was always the goal.

Once the vaccines have been rolled out these scientists will disappear from the media, regardless of the global roll out. No one will cope with years of social distancing, most of these scientists have no comprehension of mental health

If you to travel to a poorer country now you do so in the knowledge that there is a risk of of illness that wealthier countries no longer worry about.

y'know I'm kinda sick of all these epidemiologists... they are not good for one's mental health with their negative predictions... this is not helpful in any way...

Israel will be the first country in the world to reach herd immunity with Pfizer.

Pfizer has performed well against variants as well.

What we need is mass vaccination and strict international travel.

This will be over if the logistics are worked out.

I think they make some good points... but yeah i also think they also keep preaching the worst case scenarios all the time like the sky is falling

I dont think restrictions for years is realistic

I know. They were way ahead early in vaccinations and werent among the first hit with variants which is why i wondered whether or not a study there would necessairily reflect the impact on rest of the world

Nah sorry

Humankind survived this long (through multiple pandemics, mind you) without being cooped up inside, paranoid taking a step out the door, and covering half of our faces

Once the vast majority is vaccinated and rates are extremely low, remove the mandates on masks and social distancing. People are welcome to choose to wear masks and distance themselves from physical contact as they wish :ohwell:

Yeah... the issue i see with making masks and social distancing permanent is that that kind of paranoia will start to make make our immune systems dependant on it

Our immunity builds itself up by being exposed to things. If an entire society tries to stop the spread of everything, then the few times someone still catches something stronger no one will be able to handle anything

Its one thing to control a serious pandemic but making it a long term norm is a really bad idea imo

Well, preventing asymptomatic spread is beyond what we hoped for but there need to be more studies.

Also, a baby was confirmed recently to be born with COVID antibodies from the mother. (Just another interesting development).
