We often want to blame everything around us for whats wrong in our lives, but sometimes, it's just us. The song is about how Gaga sabotages herself. She says self-hating phrases to herself and that leads her to a really dark place. A place that only calling 911 could help her get out of. 911 is also about letting her ego get the best of her. "Holding on so tight to the status. It's not real, but I'll try to grab it". Gaga is clinging to her status even though it's all an illusion. She knows it's bad for her and her self-esteem but she clings to it anyways. 911 is a cry for her but it's also her recognizing that only she can save herself. Nobody is coming to patch the line... The Pre-chorus can also be interpreted in two different ways. 1) I can't see me cry ever again as a way of saying she wants to end it all to end her constant pain. 2) I can't see me cry ever again as a way of saying she will take her meds to prevent these thoughts. LittleMonster20 9,788
The song is mainly about her experiences with an anti-psychotic medication called Olanzapine. The song is about being dependent on medication for happiness or at least a tolerable mental state. 911 is the reference to Olanzapine as she symbolizes it as an emergency to her mind. Like Gaga said, sometimes her brain functioned in ways she can’t control and that’s why she had to take the medicine. The lyrics are full of clear references to extreme mental health issues like voices that keep bringing her down (keep repeating self-hating phrases) or hallucinations (keep my dolls inside diamond boxes). It was a very hard song for her to record which shouldn’t come as a surprise. However she’s doing better now thankfully.
Nathaniel Arven 1,633
This is a song about taking antipsychotics to not feel psychotic, because feeling psychotic sucks, and reflecting of the fact that she has to create an artificial place to protect her mind... This song is filled with metaphors but is not a metaphor. She litterally is sick and tired of this craziness. And wants to be at peace with herself. I think this song talks about being at this moment where just just don't wanna deal with it anymore, when you know you have to make the pain stop. fun fact : I just got prescribed antipsychotics one week ago.
