US fast-food workers plan strike to demand $15-an-hour minimum wage

Also in food the managers are usually only given X hours a day to schedule people based on last year’s performance on that date. Generally they are understaffed if the performance wasn’t there the year before

If you call out sick while understaffed, you are usually given a cold shoulder the next day because a lot of the time it’s hard to find a replacement. And in some places (which is for sure against the law) you can’t call out unless you have someone to replace your shift with or they’ll discipline you and you could be at risk to losing your job.

At one point I was working opening at one restaurant and closing at another pretty much every day and I still was struggling financially.

Oh I know, it’s ridiculous, I’ve had so many shifts where it’s been sh*t because we apparently didn’t need the staff, and it was just me serving and the restaurant is RAMMED, and the customers get annoyed at ME like I’m at fault :fatcat: happened wAAAAY too many times for my liking

Holy Mayhem

I support raising minimum wage, but as soon as it gets raised, everything else shoots way up in price. It’s just a giant game of catch up

i would love to work on a fast food place, at lease for like a week. To have my cute little costume, greet customers, be super polite, professional and cute, it must be very fun idk

Sis go, its eye opening.

My fancy ass only lasted one week at mcdonalds.

I had enough as soon as they told me to use the mop as the broom. So a broom that catches oil. The chaos that it was. I just wanted to throw up. I went for night shift cause it payed bit more and was so little.

But starbucks for example is even worse cause you get same clients but besides being stupid they also think theyre smart. Lmao no hwaay, fck that

It's like that in retail too. I'm only given enough hours to keep most of my staff on for about 15-20 hours a week due to the handful of fulltime workers I'm allowed to have. All for garbage pay too despite me putting every one of them in for the maximum raise available ($0.75 a year :smh:).

They keep expecting better and better performance, more and more efficiency, and less and less payroll expenditures.

And now, they're trying to work out a way to base my annual bonus as a manager on customer service surveys which are always negatively skewed because the only people that take the time to do any stupid surveys are the people that have something to bitch about :smh:

They could take my extremely low turnover rate, happy employees, perfect inventory, low shrink (theft) rate, and the fact that my sales increase with every monthly sales report (DESPITE A PANDEMIC) and appreciate my team and I for our hard work but nah, let Karen decide what I get paid because her stupid coupon app didn't work or we wouldn't haggle on the price with her.

I need a drink :selena:

It doesn't have to though. A McDonald's worker in the US makes anywhere from $7.25 to $11.00 depending on where they live but you fly across the globe to Australia and you'll find a place where the employees are paid $15.00 to $20.00 an hour and the food is CHEAPER.

It's all about slapping those regulations on companies to say "you don't need a 100000000000% profit margin at the expense of your employees' wages or customers' wallets".

Also empirical data shows that isn’t the case anyway, the price increase is very minimal and prices tend go up every year regardless, without minimum wage increases.

its really not as fun as it may seem, especially if you have a disability or mental health issues. every day i deal with probably about 10 people who yell or complain in a rude, dehumanizing way, or make insults to me because they feel inconvenienced over something that the store doesn't control (like a price, being out of something they want, etc)

then there's the probably around 50 people per shift who treat you like you're a machine. they aren't kind and are often passive aggressive if they're already in a bad mood when arriving. they just throw their money at you, take their food, and leave. no human kindness or saying thank you or anything.

fast food workers should get way more than $15 USD an hour imo. it's such a physically and emotionally taxing job, and working in that industry has been key to my mental health deteriorating to a dangerous point in 2020 on top of the pandemic.
