I don't think America would get that anytime soon tbh regardless of who was in power. Too politically difficult. The Democrats don't have that level of control or majority in the house or Senate to overwhelmingly pass the ideas seen as most "radical" especially when u consider even many Democrats are not on board with it If it ever happens it's not gonna be in the next couple terms Healthcare is complicated. Even Canada that has overwhelming support from most of the population for Universal Healthcare continues to not move to fully Universal System like in some European Countries and continuing to keep some segments private cuz once they exist it's hard to change it cuz of the lobbiest pushback What I do hope for in America is increased coverage in Medicaid or more regulations preventing price gauging in certain costs. Stuff like that I think is more achievable in the short term To make a complete system change tho to universal ud need a President that is really into the idea (like Bernie or AOC) and they would have to be elected at the same time that Democrats have a strong majority in both the house and Senate, and to top that off you would need a movement managing to convince most Democrats of it since many Democrats now are not even on board for it yet So Pete joining or Biden being President isn't whats stopping it. Had someone like Bernie won it still wouldn't have happened anytime soon

Had someone like Bernie won it still wouldn't have happened anytime soon I agree it wouldn't have happened anytime soon but its only because the people who would vote in congress don't support it, not because the public isnt supportive of it. The united states will never move forward into a progressive country for as long as congress is made up of a majority of people who are corrupt. My reply was more saying that this isn't whats gonna change the odds. It wouldn't happen right now regardless It's true tho. MJHolland 12,725
It was only a matter of time before the clown posse found this thread and started attacking The name Buttigieg will always be like blood in the water is for sharks apparently.. He doesn't have a perfect track record, but that's the case of every public executive servant. At least he has a record when it comes to leading. It's pretty easy to have a "perfect record" if you've spent your entire career as a politician serving in a legislative body (from a hella lib state too....) Congratulations soon-to-be SECRETARY Mayor Pete

Congratulations soon-to-be SECRETARY Mayor Pete Its cute that you take the state someone's from as an excuse for voting records. There are many policies that haven t passed the house or senate that are supported by a majority of Dems. They don't pass in congress despite constituent support because politicians are mostly corrupt. So unless you can back up the idea that Pete's constituents supported the mistakes he made, your argument makes zero sense.

Holding someone accountable for their abysmal record isn't an "attack," but I guess I should expect a ridiculous claim like that from someone that had a public meltdown and vowed to personally end Bernie Sanders' political career while calling him a communist when Buttigieg dropped out of the presidential race earlier this year. Buttigieg has no record. He's only ever been the mayor of South Bend. He's never held any other office, and he did a terrible job in the one position he's ever held. You want some more? He stood by a police officer who openly mocked Eric Garner's death and then profited from it by selling t-shirts mocking the "I can't breathe" BLM slogan. He also removed traffic lights from an intersection with a public bus stop that students used to get to school, and when an 11 year old Black child was hit by a car and killed as a result, he blamed the child for darting across the street. I swear to god, I could go on forever. The dude is f*cking awful, and his record with dealing with Black residents in his city is despicable. If a Republican had done any one of the atrocious things he did as mayor, you'd condemn them immediately.

HorusRa2 5,005
Where are the, "vote for Joe but push him left after we win," folks at? Do yall still care about left priorities or are diversity quotas good enough for yall now? Fascinating that the fighting for the left priorities could wait in the primaries and the general but now dont matter because the democrat won. Is it that you were truly left or are you just a party loyalist? Or was it also that you just wanted progressives to shut up and vote so YOU would win & not us? Newsflash progressives arent going anywhere and we arent taking your **** anymore.

Morphine Prince 109,727
The way people will defend mediocrity over and over again. This is why I see Dems losing the House in 2022. And let’s see about the Senate.
TheSlash 14,539
Let's just say that here in Germany, the minister for transportation is always the least competent, bc the government didn't know where to put them else Ew, David!

Having lived in Sound Bend, IN during and after Pete’s mayorship, I can assure you that the overwhelming majority of people are beyond proud of the work he did and what his admin accomplished. That doesn’t need to be validated by the very-online-rose-Twitter crowd. Also love that if someone doesn’t support THE most leftist candidate/position, they’re a neoliberal dirtbag that’s responsible for Trump’s fascism. The far left will remain a small-tent faction, and continue losing all major elections, as long as y’all continue to bully the fvck out of people. You’re very out of touch with regular people and what they want.
