I think it also has to do with the fact that the younger generations is stigmatized as young and uneducated (which I understand to a degree) and the vast majority of the electorate (middle aged+ voters) dont trust the younger generations so they cling on to older career politicians that seem moderate in their eyes simply because they've grown used to having them around most of their lives. We aren't anywhere near that kind of agreement on anything to even have it be a reality, so why would any politician bring it up whether they'd lose support or not? When you're trying to run a primary against candidates that have had 30+ years of headline-level name recognition, you're climbing a steep cliff.
