SCOTUS judges threaten same-sex marriage

Reminder that Joe Biden was a big part in getting one of those judges (Clarence Thomas) on the court. Remember the whole Anitta Hill scandal too where he was a complete jack ass.

Hope y’all realize soon this 2 political party thing is pure theater and a sham.

It's very concerning, but at this moment its only 2 judges on a 9 judge court. While ACB may concur with Alito and Thomas, Trump's other 2 judges (Gorsuch and Kavanaugh) did not join in and agree on the opinion.

How? Supreme court is final and you can't revisit the "right to marry" again? Sure you can revisit same sex marriage but the act itself cannot be revoked.

Just like how conservatives are trying to overturn Roe v Wade; special lawsuits put in place with the hopes of going all the way up to the SC where a ruling would overrule a previous one.

Well, the way it’s done in US courts is that you basically take up a case that brings up issues related to it. That’s how they’ve attacked the ACA. In this case, it’s freedom to exercise religion. It isn’t a revocation so much as a revisitation of a case circumstance. They can’t take up Obergefell v. Hodges, but they *can* take up another case that is basically the same thing which is the method they’ve used to attack Roe v. Wade and abortion rights in the US

Right but you can't bring up to appeal same sex marriage. That has already been done. So we will be able to marry and that won't change. They can make it harder though.

It’s not an appeal, the GOP strategy is basically get a separate case with the same circumstances and keep doing that until one goes to SCOTUS. They’ve done it with abortion rights already and it’s worked at getting reviewed by SCOTUS. So yes, they can very much effectively “rescind” gay marriage and it is indeed in danger. Not imminent danger, but danger.

Basically, though, this note just says that these justices wish to revisit the issue. It itself doesn’t mean anything outside of spelling intent. If, for instance, more justices signed on then we’d have more to be concerned over as that would show that if the GOP gets a case similar to Obergefell to SCOTUS they would likely make a new ruling. So this is a situation to watch.
