I'm So Happy for Madonna

The VMAs as an actual award itself are sort of whatever at this point but tonight was not special because of the trophies in her hands, but because it's so remarkable to see her having this renaissance that even I, someone who has been devoted to her my whole life, doubted she really had in her. 

It makes me genuinely emotional a bit to see that after so many years of getting dragged (sometimes fairly, oftentimes very unjustly) her getting her flowers again. And most importantly, her getting to be here to see it. So many legends only ever get properly celebrated and given credit for what they achieved when they're gone and no longer around to see it. But tonight, in a room full of artists who in many ways are walking down a path she paved, she was given those flowers. She was celebrated. 

Really, this whole year she has been. 

Confessions II instantly became one of the most acclaimed albums of her career. She was all over the press not being made fun of, but being praised for her work and having her music both old and new celebrated. She's had pop culture commentary around her that is full of love and admiration. A whole generation of younger artists are lining up to work with her and show their appreciation for her. She's winning awards and accolades at 68, 43 years into her career, over artists who're in the absolute prime of their career. 

After almost losing her in 2024, I'm just so, so happy that she's getting to actually experience this course change and that she's getting to see with her own eyes that her legacy still matters. That she's still that girl. That everything she did has stood the test of time and that even trough some real down periods the last decade, she's still ****ing Madonna and people still really, truly do love her. 

It's so special as a fan to get to watch.
