Is it worth protecting the few to the huge detriment of the masses? I'd say that at this point it just isn't worth the end result.

Herd immunity in the US alone would be 6 million deaths, so it is not protecting “a few”.

You are right, don’t just look at the 6 million deaths, consider the millions that will be left with long term and permanent disabilities. Many people who leave the hospital, are left with permanent severe health issues and/or months of rehabilitation. Many that never were hospitalized are left with debilitating symptoms that last for months or can be permanent. Many of those who get Covid end up with lung or heart damage. We can’t just look at deaths, when we are considering preventative measures.

But the point made earlier is that the economic, social and mental health consequences may be as bad or worse than covid and just as long lasting- lockdowns are causing their own damage. Those people who have lost their jobs may not be able to pay the rent, feed their families etc do you not think that could cause it's own serious health problems??

The media have been appalling through this solely focussing on one element of this but almost completely ignoring the other costs of this

Shield the high risk. Release everyone else but with low protective measures like masks. Majority will barely suffer from it at all but herd immunity means that those high risk ones will be safer in the long term.

The impact that lockdowns have on business, therefore jobs, therefore health both physical and mental, on those that wouldn't have really had any detriment from the virus... its disgusting. 

Im not a skeptic. The virus is bad, its near unstoppable at this moment in time. But sacrificing generations upon generations of health, wealth and life is worse.

That’s the predicted number, if we were to go with full herd immunity. 

We aren’t in lockdowns. People are out shopping, dining, vacationing, etc. all across the US. 

No one is sacrificing generations. Remote learning and working from home is workable. As other jobs and businesses close, other businesses and jobs are taking off. The rest should be covered by government programs, but unfortunately the US has a clown leading the way. We need real leadership and organization from the top. If we actually had direction and leadership, we could have a National mandate.

Wealth will come back. Jobs will come back. Schools will open again. Restaurants will reopen, new ones will replace those that closed. People will resume their lives...unless they are dead or permanently disabled from Covid. 

Government assistance should be there to fill the gap, but it won’t be if clowns are running the country.

Thats not how it works. Im in the UK and service business accountancy tech to the hospitality industry. Our industry is never going to be as it was. There are not jobs out there of the same standard as those lost.

Put it this way, if you have a £500 mortgage to pay, £250 car, kids, food, insurance etc etc and you lose your job, are you going to be able to survive by finding a lower paid job which is the only thing available at the moment? 

People are losing their homes, sme's are vanishing. This is having a HUGE impact. Worse than the virus itself.

Sure if youre of school age it doesn't really matter, you can adapt. If you are a senior manager and suddenly you have no industry to work in anymore there are going to be problems.

And remember, if the car goes unpaid, the salesman goes unpaid, the valeter goes unpaid, the mechanic goes unpaid. Its not just one person.

The approach needs to be changed.

Banks are working with those that lose their jobs. The government can step in and provide help with mortgages and rentals. 

Unemployment can help with paying other bills.

Government assistance and a long term plan set up by the federal government is what the US needs.

Sorry but you need to stop underestimating this virus. There is growing evidence that many people who recover have permanent damage to their lungs, heart and brain. This is not the flu.

Thats very surface level. The mental health impact of these restrictions in out of control. There aren't jobs in the interim. Do you know what redundancy is like during a recession? Its bad enough when there aren't lockdowns.

I live on my own. Nobody to fall back on. If I lose my job then I lose everything I've worked and fought my entire life for. It will impact my credit for the next 6 years if I cant afford these payments. And its out of my control.

But yeah, I don't get why people still don't take this at least a little bit more seriously. It really kills. And if one don't die from it, your inner organs are permanently damaged. This is no joke.
