The announcement arrived alongside the rollout of the project’s lead single, “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King).” Written to bridge Kid Rock’s background in hip-hop, southern rock, and country with faith-driven lyrics, the album serves as an overt celebration of his Christian faith.

Kid Rock addressed the unexpected collaboration with Eminem directly in the album’s foreword, acknowledging the contrasting worldviews between the two rap icons.

“We differ politically and on other things, but we’ve stayed friends through it all. We hope that sets an example.”

The two artists first shared a studio track during the late 1990s, when both were navigating the local underground scene and fighting for mainstream attention. Decades later, they have reconvened to explore themes of temptation, faith, and personal reckoning on “7 Sins.”

The collaboration has surprised many listeners primarily because of how vocal both artists have been regarding national politics. Kid Rock is a prominent, vocal supporter of President Donald Trump, regularly aligning his public brand with conservative politics. Conversely, Eminem has repeatedly released scathing lyrical attacks against Trump, most notably during his widely discussed 2017 BET Hip-Hop Awards freestyle cypher.

Tensions between their respective fanbases peaked during the 2024 campaign cycle, when Eminem took the stage in Detroit to introduce former President Barack Obama at a rally for Kamala Harris. Days after that appearance, Kid Rock publicly stated that while he strongly disagreed with Eminem’s political affiliations, he still held personal love for him. Eminem reciprocated that sentiment on social media platform X, pointing out that their mutual loyalty to the Detroit Lions transcended their disagreements and addressing his peer by his given name, “Bob.”

Despite the artists’ mutual understanding, reaction from the audience has been far more polarized. Following the tracklist reveal, listeners across social media and Reddit expressed shock, with several expressing plans to purge collaborative material from their streaming libraries over Kid Rock’s alignment with Trump. Others voiced confusion over how Eminem’s secular, anti-establishment persona fits into a project explicitly themed around spiritual salvation.

Representatives from Eminem’s camp confirmed to music outlets that the track is an official, approved studio collaboration.

I think Kid Rock is the biggest douchebag in the world, but like... the outrage at this from both sides of the political aisle is kind of the point of them collaborating, no?

Those song titles are so pandering. Truly the party of grifting.

Anyways, white straight cis men will always have each other's back at the end of the day.

If ur gonna make Christian music can we at least be a little imaginative with the titles? Sounds as cheesy as the Kanye record.

i come from a Christian background and while I don’t consider myself a Christian artists in terms of the music I make, the content is in there and I’d never release a song called “god is good” lmao that’s some VBS sounding garbage.
