I think Gaga is at a point in her career where her label can't say much on how she does things. She wanted the album to be delayed and Interscope agreed, because the reason is tolerable.

Not Interscope, but UMG is making those kind of decisions along with the artist, but the label still has the final word. She really can’t decline, no matter how „free” she is with her contract or else she could be fined with a multi million dollar „ticket”.

As it was reported not long before the postpoment, UMG was considering the delays of all huge forthcoming releases. I’m fairly sure they did speak with Gaga on this multiple times and they definitely took her opinion on it and I’m convinced she wanted to delay the album too, tho I’m not so sure what would they do if she wouldn’t want to delay it.

I mean, I hope you're right - but in terms of representing an album, 'rebranding' would essentially be redoing the cover and album art and visual messaging.

I really hope she doesn't do this, but I know for sure that she is reigning everything in regards the themes of destruction, division, 'war' and 'fighting'.

As I said, she's changed the tribe concept (no longer called tribes), and it's likely the album cover might change. She might feel that the vision would be viewed as insensitive now.

I hope to god she doesn't change everything in the next few weeks, because, honestly, it all sounds so epic. But this is Gaga. And I really can't see her releasing artwork and music videos set in a world that's collapsing atm.

All of us would understand it's just art. But you know the press could have a field day with this.

The timing seriously could not be worse. :bradley:

If we have to look back at Chromatica and ask 'what if?', we'll be so gutted.

I just want to see the album cover so we can confirm where her head is at. The description of the cover I have is very detailed and I've seen others talking about it, too, so I believe it's legit. If the cover doesn't even slightly resemble that description, I'm gonna think she's changed it all and my faith in this era will drop pretty quickly.

Honestly, I'd rather the album be pushed back to 2021 than it be released in a few months but without the concept she's dreamt of executing.

The album won’t change one bit. It’s done. She can’t really change it that much except for adding an extra song. It’s a done deal. It was submitted to the label. Now it’s their property.

Do you think the little hype there was for Chromatica will still be there once she decides to release it? :gum:

Yes. The promo will be big. The album will do fine.

Definitely! We may feel disappointed right now but we'll forget as soon as we have the new release date I think

In regards to the tribes, are you saying that they’re still going to be there, but they’re just not called “tribes” anymore, or will they be completely gone?

I guess on some level, I can understand her wanting to change it up, but I agree with you, I hope she doesn’t. It sounds really cool, and I think it’s a message that we still need in this world. Despite what’s going on right now, people are still so divided. After this pandemic’s over, that won’t just mean that everyone’s going to come together.

As for the music, do you know if she’s thinking of redoing/reworking some of that? I mean, the music and songs have to relate to the album and its message, and if she’s thinking of changing the fundamental message of the album, surely one would think that means that she’s also thinking of changing some songs or something. I hope not because literally everything so far seems so cool, but again, it’s Gaga we’re talking about....anything goes....

Wait what was the “original” one supposed to look like exactly :enigma:

In terms of the tribes, I have no idea. All I know is that her team have / or will be sending out memos regarding the 'tribe' tag. It seems a little unnecessary imo, but she / her team apparently find it politically incorrect. My guess is that if Gaga personally is so against them now, it's likely they won't occur again. But I don't know!

And as for music - this is not based on anything other than my opinion, but I am sure the music will stay exactly the same. The album is finished, and there's logistically no time to add new songs or rework the album in its entirety.

This doesn't mean the messaging and visual codes of the album won't change, though.

If I'm correct, I THINK the concept of 'Chromatica' was retrospective and was built around the album, not for the album.

So, technically, they could keep the same title and theme but remove a lot of its intended meaning.

The songs, apparently, don't connect explicitly to the world of Chromatica.

Chromatica = a state of mind about life... it's very general.

I think she just decided to package it in the form of a planet that's hurting.

Yeah, of course you're 100% right on the music front.

But that doesn't mean she won't redo the album artwork, necessarily.

As I said above, the music of Chromatica (and the title) could stay exactly the same but have totally different visuals and still make sense.

Which is why I think it's POSSIBLE they might cancel their original vision which was very focused on destruction and war.

The album cover? I believe @OMonster said that it’s supposed to be Gaga holding Chromatica (the planet) in her hands while there’s fire and destruction in the background.

Is anyone honestly surprised tho?  It's not like this delay came out of no where.

Louder, for the people in the back!

The absolute unwillingness of some members to even consider that there may well be a delay was :rip: this is what made it harder.

Writing had been on the wall for a good two weeks before the announcement

Stare at the Chartster in the mirror they talk to me too. #StreamFunTonight

No! I know someone who is loosely connected to Gaga, though.

They've told me many things in the past - some right, some wrong. I've always been skeptical.

I was told about her changing her mind on the tribe concept a week or so ago, though. And since then, other reliable sources have confirmed that to be true, which makes me lean towards trusting this person a little more than I have in the past.

But... I know nothing more than anyone else. It's a trust game, really. Only a month or so ago I was totally in the dark. My friend knew nothing about the era, and I was relying on others for info about the song and MV. Now it's started / had started though, you'd be surprised by how quickly things leak and become easily accessed.

Well, I was never told that explicitly - but yeah, I read between the lines.

The actual description I was given referred to how the placeholder cover (the planet) links significantly to the actual cover, how the Paper shoot is very indicative of the cover's style, and how the cover is one of the reasons why the album had to be delayed because it would be seen as insensitive right now.

ModernEcstasy

So today was probably the first day since the release of BTW that I haven’t woken up thinking of Gaga and immediately checked GGD.
The delay of Chromatica has broken the hold she had over me :bradley: (very strange feeling)

I still believe it’ll be scrapped or reworked/ released next year.

She clearly said that she will tell us a new 2020 release date

The album is done and sent to the label, the lead single was released and some MVs are ready. She can't scrap anything.

Is there a chance that she will change the original choice of singles or not?  That's what makes me most uncomfortable

Changing the visuals would be dumb, imo. Gaga said the album is about changing your perspective of life basically, "cancelling earth" is about leaving the pain and chaos of our reality behind so tthe visuals would be pretty obvious and telling.

I hate that ever since ARTPOP Gaga completely changed her conviction as an artist, wanting to change her album cover because she's fearing it would be "insensitive" is just plain stupid, just like her changing the tribe thing. Why do it now a month later after the MV release? Is her team really that bad that they said "You know Gaga, you should change how we address the tribes because now it might be insensitive"? :smh: Why did they think that NOW and not before, while they were discussing the concepts and everything? I'm sl frustrated ngl, I hooe she sticks to her vision and gives us what she wanted to deliver, not change it because of political correctness
