It's a fringe movement. That's not what Californians want, so... Meanwhile DC has been asking for statehood. 

The state is too large and it overwhelms political influence in the Senate and it could easily be split into North and South. It may not be what some want but it's what needs to be done...will it happen is up in the air...I was simply stating something that I felt needed to be addressed first before DC tries to become a state lol

In other federal countries lots of capitals are their own states like Berlin, Vienna and Brussels to name a few

And California is a big influence, but it’s balances out with Texas and a couple other red states.

This might be a stupid question, but are people in D.C. unable to vote then? Or do they vote alongside a different state? I’ve never actually thought about that before lol.

Think if we gave DC and Puerto Rico statehood. That would add 4 dem senators to the mix... That would be amazing. 

But Dems can't approach this in the way that I just did... Logically, they should be states. I'm just pointing out the amazing side-effects for doing what is right.

They vote in POTUS election.... But they don't have any representatives in the House and they have no Senators. So they have zero representation when it comes to Congress.

How do they fill out ballets during midterms/presidential elections? Or do people in DC not fill in certain boxes in those elections?

Motivations might be, but such a large population of people should be adequately represented in the government as should Puerto Rico.

Actually, I wasn't 100% accurate. DC citizens vote in Presidential elections, and they have one representative in the House, but their representative doesn't actually vote... And, as I previously stated, they do not have any representation in the Senate. So, effectively, they have zero Congressional representation, but I guess they do have one non-voting representative in the House, which I don't think changes the conversation much.

That's sort of bizarre. So Maryland laws don't effect people living in DC? What laws apply to them?
