Notre Dame cathedral in Paris on fire

Holy ****, I can't believe it.  And, during Holy week no less. Not going to lie, the footage makes me cry. As an art history student, you read about fires and freak occurrences like this occurring throughout history, but it's so horrible to see live. I'll hold out hope for the Cathedral come what may because the only thing Catholicism ever gave me was my unwavering determinism.

oh wow the live images are horrendous, absolutely awful but it really looks like it’s gone from less than 50% being damaged to a lot more now

Yeah, one moment it seems like they have it under control and the next the whole building seems on fire...

holy ****!!!! it's really burning up quick! I hope the damage is reversible...... that's so sad and scary. Praying there are no casualties

As of right now, there have been no injuries reported as it started around 5 minutes before it closed to visitors.

I have class in 15 minutes about music history and I don't think I'm going to handle this well. So much of the western music we know today came from Notre Dame.

I know. And that organ, the organ is gone :udidnt:

People don’t realize the importance and influence of Notre Dame overall. It’s not just important to Catholics.

this is a real loss for humanity & the arts. This was a piece of art 900 years old. I'm so sad the spire collapsed ugh. It's probably never going to be recovered.
