A lot of you were quick to diminish the importance of the message in her recent song, So Am I, because she is a straight, white woman who you all claimed has not experienced any intolerance for being different in her own life. But in this interview, Ava reveals that she grew up wearing a body brace to help her scoliosis so she was physically very different from her peers. She also speaks about wanting to start an organization and charity to help other people who struggle with scoliosis using money she will earn from her music.

and some of u keep treating her like sh!t and saying rude things about her, just because some delusional fans call her the “next gaga”. i know that the fact she had scoliosis shouldnt make u go listen to her and be her fan but learn how to be kind and let the girl alone. im not a fan of her either but i dont go on every thread to talk sh!t about her. lots of u complain about being treated badly and yet u do the same. hypocritic people!

If you don’t have any shadows, you’re not standing in the light.

She has a heart of gold and just wants to make the world slightly less terrible than it already is by speaking her voice and releasing music she's worked hard on. No one is being forced to listen to her but to say these terrible things about her just for releasing music is awful.

Didymus

As I said in another thread: even if there was an autobiographical inspiration behind this song, the outcome is still a basic, unimpressive and uninspired (yes) pop song that is no different from previous bland and deliberately vague self-love, you're-different-but-that's-ok songs

She still needed five co-writers to write those basic "cheap perfume" lyrics and it is absolutely impossible to tell she genuinely understands how it feels to be "different" from the norm. So even though her intention might have been ok, the song still is not. That's my take on it and nothing will change that.

Her bravely speaking about her illness has nothing to do with the quality of the song. It's a fun pop song with a great message. You don't have to like it, but just know that she's much more capable than a generic song. For anyone interested, check out these songs she put on SoundCloud a few years ago! They're amazing

Where are you getting this from? According to Apple Music she wrote the song on her own.
