For me the ending is not soo bad. The problem is how we got to the end, completely rushed and filled with plot holes. imo the biggest sin still remains the death of the night king, that was supposed to be THE ultimate plot of the show and it was soo anticlimactic and badly written that it automaticaly ruins the rest of the show. Dany going bad needed at least a few more episodes if not a season more. In the end what kept me going was how crazy beautiful the show is estheticaly, the VFX and the beautiful shots, just wow. Oh well, I hope the books come eventually.

I'm rather enjoying all the meltdowns, because I thought that finale was breathtaking for the most part.

The season has ultimately been frustrating because there wasn't the usual fleshing out of characters' experiences/arcs but the direction of the major characters makes sense given their arcs up until the source material ceased existing for the writers to use as guidance for the story. I'm sure GRRM will flesh out these endings in a better, more detailed way in his writing.

I loved the treatment of Daenerys's character in this finale. There was no other way to end her reign than having Jon end it. That sequence was phenomenal, and Drogon's grief and fury was stunning to watch. I shed a tear at that sequence where he flew away from Westeros with Dany in his claw. It was probably the most well-written dragon scene in the show's run. George gives the dragons such personalities in the books and this scene tapped in on the depth he gave the creatures in his writing.

I'm probably the only person on this forum that was smiling when Tyrion made the case for Bran to lead Westeros. The internets calling it illogical, but I think it's absolutely right. Bran knows Westeros's history better than anyone in it - who better to lead going forward than someone who will make sure the mistakes of yesterday never happen again? Bran the Broken becomes Bran the Builder. It's so poetic and unexpected. I'm thrilled with how this episode really celebrated the Stark kids - they are who we have followed since the first episode. They provided this story and show with its heart and soul and seeing them come out on top was perfect. Sansa blossomed as a leader in this last season and was so right in declaring the North's independence from the South in this episode. Arya departing for the unknown was an intriguing end to her character - Maisie Williams really deserves an Emmy for her work. Jon going North again left me a little divided - I did want more for his character re: where he ended up but the character itself did not want what I wanted for it. I wanted Jon on the Throne, but Jon didn't (and couldn't) after slaying Daenerys. I was so happy Ghost had his moment with Jon after it all.

I rather enjoyed Tyrion in this episode as well. Peter Dinklage bought his A game in every scene. The lack of rocks on top of Jamie & Cersei made me chuckle a little, but I thought the emotional reaction we saw from Tyrion was well worth that blunder from the writers. Tyrion being named as Bran's hand was satisfying, and the dwarf was back at his witty best on that Small Council. Loved that Sam, Davos and Brienne were in Bran's council. I was a little underwhelmed at Bronn being on it, though. I suppose it's fitting given the nature of Tyrion's relationship with Bronn, but I would've been happier about that if Bronn's character had been on the livings side during the Battle of Winterfell. The assassin arc the writers gave him was the season's most pointless writing.

If there was anything in this episode that I didn't like, it was the lingering of Grey Worm post-Daenerys. Once Daenerys flew away with Drogon, the Unsullied and the Dothraki should have admitted defeat and left Kings Landing. Why they wrote Grey Worm holding power / holding Tyrion captive only to bring him out to a trial (I think?) where it was decided there needed to be a King was.. a little ridiculous/awkward. I also thought Kings Landing was rebuilt rather quickly after it was quite literally destroyed (although I understand the beards of Tyrion and Jon were meant to imply we had moved forward in time).

The sound work in this episode was an absolute masterclass as well. I can't wait for the soundtrack to be released. The Stark theme's presence in this episode gave me all the feels.

Overall, I'm one of the few that thought this episode was a fantastic ending to the story. The show will always be on top of my favourites list - I'm really going to miss it.

:applause: you nailed it for me thanks!

Music this whole season was absolutely phenomenal. I told my boyfriend he has to take me to see Ramin Djawadi's Game of thrones concert when it comes to Toronto in September.

The first half of the finale was good IMO. Dany needed to die, and it's a perfect end to her elaborate story. The pacing was slow like all the good GOT episodes. Honestly they should have stretched the first half into a 1.5 hour episode and ended it at Dany's assassination.

The second half was awkward, rushed and disappointing. Bran as a ruler doesn't make any sense - he practically has no empathy or soul, and he isn't at all respected as a leader. The banter between Bran's new counsel made me cringe! I didn't mind how the other Starks stories ended but the second act of the finale was a CHOICE

This petition is indicative of how far into entitled, babyish narcissism we have descended. It’s perfectly OK to say "I don’t enjoy this" & give constructive criticism. It’s another thing entirely to say "it should be made exactly as I wish because you didn't play out my fan theory I read on the internet." It's just the lazy internet equivalent of a three-year-old having a tantrum and stamping their feet.

It appears we are devolving as a human race into more levels of stupidity. These petition signatories aren’t storytelling professionals and don’t know how to make a TV show or a film. And the petitioners all probably want different outcomes to each other anyway. You want to sign a petition? Find one about the inhumane legislation in Alabama. Or Climate Change. LadyLuca

My thoughts of the last 2 seasons

Negative first.

characters behaved stupid. Many get ruined

Spoiler

Tyrion is not clever and wise anymore. Only d jokes

John is unimportant and does nothing.

Arya doesent use facelessmen. Why did she learn that anyways, couldnt she just be an assasin.

Varys went from master of whisperers to master of trying to get killed. His loyalty and wisodm are questionable after all.

Jamie had a perfect story but his redemtion got ruined in the end. Wish he would have killed him and cercei in the end because he know they are both rotted. also I didnt need that sex scene. (brienne)

Cercei. When she was there it was underwhelming. Didnt shoot them while conversation, just killed missande. Didnt had any trap whatssoever. Jusr standing there doin nothing. boring death. also beeing childish over her elephants, what a clever joke for that character.

Nightking, The WHOLE series build up for his war. Honestly I could write a full page why this was lame written and anticlimatic but my highlights were his co cky behavior and random arya killing him. So bad. He should have destroyed more- be more neutral and be killed by John or maybe maybe danny.

euron, I mean he stayed in character but his whole role I felt was out of touch of the series. He felt like a stupid character made for simple people to laugh about his lame jokes. But this one may be opinion bases much.

and more....but the worst character arc was:

Daenerys. Loved her. Shes perfect until episode 4. They turned the chainbreaking, people loving mother of dragons to hi tler in no time. its not bad that she is bad or mad, but how it got there. Tyrion himself said it at the end. She was brutal. but to whom? to her enemys. To bad people. All the time. She never went to astapor or mereen saying: kill all the unborn babies, women, children, old people because they may not like me.

She had questionable momemts which is good, her character would be boring if she hadnt but this was absurd. To justify such a moment they needed more time and episodes. Scenes with her beeing helpless over her own sanity and loosing the control. Just not like they did it before. There were more moments when she showed mercy, helped people and said she wont be queen of the ashes then those foreshadowing momemts.

Also everyone was brutal in gsme of thrones but only she get called mad because of her fathers story. Is sansa mad for killing ramsay?anyways.Dannys character arc turned from complex character to irreasonable stupid. it was made to shock people. People who like fireworks and flashy light propably like this moment but ultimaltly the progression was not fleshed out and dissapointed many.

I could also write a page about her stupid end but you guys get what I want to say.

Underwhelming/stupid Scenes

Spoiler

Battle against Nightking. Arya killing NK. Cmon what was that. There was no story behind it. Plain suprise moment without thoughful reasons behind them (the season was full of those moments)Battle ended so soon.  I would have loved to see them lose against the WW

Danny burning them all

Arya horse scene. what was it about.

Raegals death. They talk about eurons fleets and beeing careful and then they dont see the fleet eventhoug they stand in shooting range? excause me? this was again a shocking firework moment for people who like flashy lights. Writers claiming they forgot it.

Littlefingers death. Such a great clever character got such a lame ending. it was season seven and his role was maybe ending anyways but this was underwhelimg af.

Rushed scenes. Varys beeing able to teleport. Danny from winterfell/dragonstone to behind the wall. Greyworm executing people, still beeing faster then john running to danny etc.

Onesided battle at kingslanding

Unsullied and Dothraki death? behavior. Sry but what was that.First they are all dead and then in the next episode a GREAT portion still lives. A few would be acceptable but this. Welp. a mistake I guess. even if danny who should bring all her army to the north to fight against the dead because her plan is to not rule about dead bodys (lool) and stationated some of her army in dragon stone, there were so many. and after their leaders death dothraki would not negotiate or just go home. they would raid.

All the mistakes that happend. Cmon they had 2 years time. Starbucks and plastic bottle. Goldenhand turns normal again etc.

Also battle against nightking was way too dark. I get what they wanted to demonstrate but this was too much. How dark had yall have to make your room in order to see stuff.

Now the good.

Beautiful effects and great actors

Spoiler

Battle in the skies

Danny drogon wings

Fire, Winterfell

Fightscene

Every special effect

All actors were on point. The writing was bad but even if the most stupid scene were danny burned them all it wss very well portraied by emila clarke. No exeption. they were all good.

Briene crying because shes not sir brienne. really good. etc.

bad/Sad ending

Spoiler

Eventhough I wished for another ending, (harder NK battle, more satisfying cercei death and sansa villain) I am happy it didnt got the John on the throne ending. John is so basic it would be the ultimate let down. It would have been worse if he AND danny would be on the throne  ( and she would be prego)

Im glad its not a happy ending. Its GoT afterall. Im not satisfied with the ending and not okay with HOW it ended (the progression, the way) but its okay cuz its not happy. Bran is okay as king wish his role would be larger and we would know and see more but meh.

Danny dead, John exile, bitter sansa alone in the north, Arya exploring andso on. its good afterall. Meaning the result is fine but for some the progression to it is stupid. im repeating myself sry.

In the end: Game of thrones was and amazing series with 6 exeptional good season and 2 season that just couldnt reach their standarts. It is how it is. we cant change it. The long story build ups just changed directions and character goals/purposes were weakly written and executed at the end.

Im glad for the things that were good. If I had to I would  give game of thrones these 2 ratings

10/10 Season 1-6

3,5/10 Season 7-8

WAIT A SECOND :grr::grr::grr:

If Winterfell/ The North gets to be its OWN independent Kingdom... then why don't some of the other Lords make a similar demand? Why doesn't the new Prince of Dorne make that same demand? Dorne's words are "Unbowed, Unbent, and Unbroken" mainly because the Queen of Dorne did NOT submit to Aegon and his two sisters when they conquered Westeros with their dragons. Dorne has always been about independence..(They joined willingly when Daeron Targaryen promised to wed Mariah Martell to unify the Kingdom). But now they bow down to Bran because ... [?????] Never forget that they pledged to Danaerys not too long ago.

It's not like they have a depleted army: they stayed out of the Battle of the Bastards, the Battle of Winterfell, and the Battle of King's Landing. I mean..

There are honestly too many unresolved issues with this finale to even count...

The system they have set in place with Bran as king + a council is not going to last as well, realistically. Yara for some reason forgets to mention that Dany promised Independence to the Iron Islands all of a sudden cause she doesn't care? :rip: They probably took it out because it does lead to obvious conflict and they needed the series to end with Sansa becoming Queen of the North... But ultimately, S8 did a good job with Dany in that from her perspective you can kind of come to the realization that really ALL of the kingdoms - 7 or 6 whatever - should probably be split into their own self-governing states as part of the "break the wheel" idea. The ending itself sets up a potential major sectarian conflict that could consume the realm, unless Bran + his council just decide to let everyone be independent and for there to not be a One king of the realm eventually.

Yay the wheel keeps on spinning, as long as the Starks are happy :P

Meh. The petitioner is rather polite in his requests and congratulates the entire team involved with the show, bar the writers/showrunners

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit disappointed, but to me... the ending is still good. Not good in the sense that I got what I really wished for, but good in the sense of wise

This whole episode announced a brand new era upon Westeros.

Although Jon would have been a good ruler, he was a Targaryen, therefore he represented the merciless, tyrannical and mad House of Targaryen. Westeros has had its time of born rulers. It deserves to evolve and advance in the next era, an era of democracy and humanity where totalitarian monarchies and tyrannies are part of the past.
