It is a bit upsetting to see that Ellen and Hart agree that this was an "attack" by "trolls" and "haters"... It's not hard to search someone's tweet history and see if they have said anything hurtful, especially when you have been announced as the host for the most prestigious award ceremony. His comments weren't thoughtful or kind, whether they were recent or not, and a simple apology would have dissolved the drama. However, instead it has been dragged out to such an extent because he couldn't simply apologise - who cares if he has before, it's about the sentiment of being a role model to many people who might now think it is okay to speak about people in this way and yet still be able to host the Oscars - which is one of the most grand of achievements anyone could ask for.

Yea, at this point it's not even about his tweets.. It's about making Hart seem like the victim and the one suffering because of his own tweets. Another point, he wasn't even fired from the hosting gig. He CHOOSE to leave because he didn't want to set things straight. I have yet to see this apology that he apparently did years back. This all falls on him and his own decisions and yet everyone else is falling for his victim tour.

People need to stop attacking Kevin for this, plain and simple. I appreciate that Ellen did this and I fully agree with what she said. This witch hunt against people's past is stupid, pointless, and irritating. What does digging up what someone said 10 years ago do for anyone? Absolutely nothing.

I'm not saying that what he said wasn't insensitive, stupid, or hurtful, because what he said was wrong.  That being said, you are doing nothing by bringing up his past. He's grown, he's changed, and there is nothing you can do about the past.

If y'all want to fight homophobia, fight it where it counts instead of using what someone said 10 years ago against them. 

Y'all defended James Gunn when his tweets were dug up (trust me, I remember because I used to be one of those people that vehemently went after Gunn), so why are y'all now attack Hart?

No. It's because we don't want an openly homophobic man hosting an awards show that is primarily watched by women and gays.

He could've simply said sorry for his actions like everyone else. But no, he had to play the victim and act like people are attacking him for no reason. There is NO reason to be homophobic in 2019. And even though the tweets happened a long time ago, if he doesn't give an apology, that means he still stands by what he said in the tweets today.
